Luckily for the house and its neighbours, Sasuke had begun to wake up just as the first hint of a thick burning smell wafted through the ground floor, and had even managed to reach the kitchen before anything went horrendously wrong. ... The kitchen in which an adult was apparently trying to burn the house down. He blinked and paused. It was tempting to just stare at the scene in front of him in half-awake disbelief, but common sense had him over to the counter before he could get a proper glare in place.

Seconds later, the heat was down to something sensible, the omelette had received a look so disapproving it would have felt shame if it were able, and a Sasuke still in his pyjamas was slumped at the table doing his level best to ignore everything.

Sai had his own helping hand in the disaster that was the omelette, no doubt, given that he spent his part of it with one hand curled into Neuro's shirt, peering around the former-demon to watch what he was doing. It was a good thing, he thought, just watching. He wasn't quite as scared as he had been, and things were slowly starting to make more sense, even if he still couldn't remember a whole lot. He remembered Neuro, now, the safe-warm-steady prescence fitted with a name and a vague memory of meeting him before and meeting him when Neuro was accompanied by someone small-female-safe-hungry.

Then there was someone else, and Sai didn't know who Sasuke was, inching away from him and half darting behind Neuro to use the man as a shield.

After a moment, Sai tugged lightly on Neuro. "Who?" he queried, glancing at Sasuke before looking back up at Neuro.

What passed for breakfast was possibly rescued into being something vaguely edible by the intervention, depending on how brave Sasuke was. (Neuro had eaten his own cooking before, and Sai likely wouldn't realize how horrifying it was until he'd become more coherent.)

Even though it wasn't the same Sasuke as the one that had helped him escape, Neuro was still oddly happy to see the boy - if there was much in common at all, then this one should be just as crankily reliable. But then, as amusing as the roommate was, Neuro HADN'T honestly met him yet, technically, nor could he play off knowing too much already.
"I do not know - you are one of the others assigned to this place, yes?" Neuro turned his head around to about the limit of what the human frame would let him do while he was still at the stove. "I am Neuro! This is Sai, and you are?"

Not so much 'brave' as 'unwilling to set a precedent'. Sasuke snorted quietly and tilted his head from where he'd not-quite-rested it on the tabletop to watch them, just in case the guy tried to go near the hobs again. He hadn't noticed the other kid until now, and that was a little unsettling.

"Uchiha Sasuke," he offered. Neuro's expression was starting to make him edgy. Or edgier than before, which was saying something. Not for the first time, he found one hand twitching towards a non-existent knife pouch.
