I could definitely imagine Troy getting so caught up in the adventures of the journey that he would forget about the consequences of his actions
All characters were spot on.

That was amazing. I mean it was legit amazing. Like, Jeff and Annie's fight was obviously going to happen-- but Simmons' story and Annie telling Jeff to 'burn him', and you know all Annie ever has to do is ask.
And the kiss. The kiss was amazing. I want Jeff's pov though. And I love that it started out as a reverse of the Debate scenario, but continued with his FINALLY declaring his love it's just perfect. Please please please update soon.
Edit: I just noticed that Troy was shouting for joy-- he's such a shipper on deck.

-Wait, what were we talking about?
I'm so glad you liked it. :) I was thinking that part of Annie's hangup (not the biggest part though) was her concern with being "better" than Simmons. And she didn't like the idea of him having the moral high ground over them. But after she saw that it's basically impossible to not be better than him, well that hangup was out the window haha.
And yes, regarding Troy. Like everyone else, he's seen the things going on between Annie and Jeff. And Troy loves his friends, so he's ecstatic to see them happy.

I always like it. And that makes sense, yeah :D. Let's be real, she cares more about beating Simmons than being 'right' in this instant.

Now can we have him back for the big kiss that is coming in the season? Pleeease?

If only that were up to me. Dan has been perfectly clear about how much he wants Donald to return. I just wish Donald felt the same way :(
I want Jeff's pov though.
Ask, and ye shall receive.

I thought Simmons was beat waaaayyyy to easy. It drained the tension out of it...
Other than that, it was a really good chapter, again. Loved the J/A fight, that felt realistic from both sides.
Hope you update soon!

Be careful what I wish for, huh?
I thought Simmons was beat waaaayyyy to easy.Fair enough. And I agree with you to a point. However, Jeff and Annie beat him rather easily in the debate; it wasn't until he went off book and launched himself out of his wheelchair that he had a shot at winning (excluding the opening where Jeff was blowing if off and Annie was in robot mode). So this time is was Troy and Jeff (with Annie's help in preparation) beating him easily. My problem was that I couldn't think of a similar Hail Mary for him to use this time - hence Annie's noting that it all seemed oddly anticlimactic ( ... )

You're right that Jeff and Annie beat him easily in Debate. But... that was Jeff and Annie aka the team. This was just Jeff.
But you have some good points, better to write it like this than try a Hail Mary that falls flat. And in the end, it's a J/A fic, not a Community episode, so it's all good.
And don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it, just had this little nagging thought of "well, that was easy". Maybe the problem was that it was readily apparent from Jeff's opening statement that he was gonna wipe the floor with him. Maybe it could've worked slightly better if there was more of a buildup to that. Making the kiss (and Troy's reaction to it) the deciding moment.
Ha, now I've had another thought. What if the kiss was Jeff's equivalent of the Hail Mary? With Simmons not knowing how to respond (because he doesn't have an Annie with him) and being beaten...
Anyway, I still think it was really good, just a little constructive criticism. See, this is why I don't comment on fics! ;-)

Jeff and Annie's fight was so very in-character, I wanted to weep for joy. And Annie telling Jeff to destroy Simmons...YES. SHE TOTALLY WOULD SAY THAT AND JEFF WOULD TOTALLY LEAP TALL BUILDINGS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
I am SO looking forward to more!

You did not miss anything. Patience, patience, I will get there :-P

The early reviews are saying this, and I'm soooo glad to hear it! I was über nervous about keeping them both in character. My biggest conflict was with Annie. Would she be more concerned with her principles or with Troy? It's a difficult balance. I tried to play it as her being faithful to both, in a way. She wanted to mount a vigorous defense for Troy, but just not in the manner that Jeff had planned. And maybe she had tricked herself a little into thinking there was some magical legal solution that would allow her to completely achieve her goal of saving Troy while being 100% noble. But in the end, she saw that Simmons wasn't willing to play by the rules either, and it made it an easy decision for her to want to respond in kind.
And Annie telling Jeff to destroy Simmons...YES. SHE ( ... )
