Jul 09, 2012 22:50

44 icons featuring female heroic Disney characters from the following movies:
» Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, Atlantis, Beauty and the Beast, Brave, Cinderella, Enchanted, Finding Nemo, Hercules, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Lilo & Stitch, Lion King, Little Mermaid, Mulan, Peter Pan, Pocahontas, Princess and the Frog, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Tangled, Tarzan, Treasure Planet, WALL-E

A long-in-the-making follow-up to this post.

Note: Like the last time, I tried focusing on human and recognizable characters first, and there are explanations at the bottom. There are, however, MANY more alternates than last time partly because I overthink things and partly because princesses are SRS BZNS and I don't want to offend people by not examining the personalities from various angles. The dates listed here are for 2012, so may not be accurate for the year you were born.

In the process of updating... If you're wondering where I got caps/textures, just ask. :)

explanations
Aries brave, adventurous, initiating, impulsive, active, enthusiastic, leaders
• I put Merida here because she is brave (haha), impulsive, and adventurous. The Aries sign is centered around action and I find Merida is the same way. She acts before she thinks.
• I picked Nala because I was short an Aries and figured Nala needed to make an appearance in this set. Her personality is vague enough that she could fit anywhere, but I think Aries is a reasonably good fit considering she's a fighter and one of the few lionesses to take action by leaving the pride. If you don't like my choice, though, I included two others.
• Ariel is an Aries because, like Merida, she is brave, impulsive, and adventurous. She's not afraid of sharks, humans, or leaving home, and she's also a very active character in general.
• I also put Pocahontas down as an Aries for the same reasons as Merida and Ariel. She jumps off cliffs and does whitewater rafting and goes off to explore the unknown. She also has the ability to lead by example i.e. inspire tolerance through her own actions.

Taurus patient, conservative, determined, stubborn, comfort-loving, down-to-earth, reliable
• I put Cinderella here because she's hardworking and determined, and she seems to be more of a slow-and-steady, work-at-her-own-pace type of worker, which fits Taurus. She's very patient when it comes to realizing her dreams.
• I picked Snow White because she's hard-working (like, she tackled the task that was cleaning the dwarves' house like a boss) and can be very stubborn when she's set her mind on something. Tauruses are also good hosts and I can see Snow White being that.
• For an alternate, I picked Wendy because she's a very dependable person. I get the feeling if she says she'll do something, you can 100% trust her to follow through. She also has a very calm, patient personality.

Gemini talkative, energetic, fickle, quick-witted, restless, curious, clever
• I picked Dory because she's very talkative and likes to share information, curious, very energetic and upbeat and bubbly and youthful, but also kind of scatter-brained and flits from one thing to another (well, that's due to her memory problem, mostly).
• I put Lottie here because she has so much energy and is constantly in motion. I think she's a little more Leo, actually, but I needed an extra Gemini.
• I didn't want people to think Gemini = airhead, so I put in Jane Porter as an alternate. Jane is curious, intellectual, loves information, and can even be a little tricksy ("Oh, look, bananas!").
• Rapunzel is the other Gemini alternate because she's super energetic, youthful, bubbly has like a billion hobbies, and makes friends instantly.

Cancer loving, cautious, protective, home-loving, moody, kind, possessive
• I picked Wendy as a Cancer because she's very maternal and caring, and family is an important part of the Peter Pan story. She can also be sort of possessive/clinging, which clashes with Peter's frivolity, I think.
• I picked Lilo because she's verrrry family-oriented and clinging. Cancers keep memories close to their heart, which is a major part of Lilo -- she never forgets her ohana and she forms strong personal bonds with people. She's also capable of being very moody, haha.
• I picked Cinderella for Cancer because she has a nurturing, protective spirit (like how she takes in mice and clothes them) and is a romantic and emotionally sensitive person. Although I suppose that works for Pisces too.
• And finally, I also picked Megara because she's a cautious and guarded individual (like a crab) but very loving and self-sacrificing underneath.

Leo natural leader, dominant, purposeful, bossy, ambitious, generous, confident
• I picked Kida because she's naturally able to take charge of a situation and is comfortable directing people without annoying them. She's confident, cares about her people, and has a strong sense of purpose.
• I feel like I'm cheating by choosing characters who come from a regal background, but I picked Jasmine as the other Leo because she's confident and knows what she wants, can put on an authoritative air when she wants, but is also generous/magnanimous -- for example, giving an apple to a hungry child.
• Lottie is an alternate Leo because she's verrrry comfortable being in the spotlight and she has a very clear goal and pursues it, and can be dominating, but she's also very warm-hearted and generous too (for example, the way she can drop everything in an instant to help Tiana).
• I also put Snow White here because while she's not normally in a position of power, it comes rather naturally to her when she interacts with the dwarves and just takes charge of the whole situation.

Virgo meticulous, critical, industrious, humble, fussy, analytical, dutiful
• I picked EVE because she is meeee she's very... immaculate and dutiful, she analyzes stuff for her job, and has a strong work ethic. I think Virgos can be almost kind of robotic so I think EVE's appropriate here, although I can see her working for Taurus too.
• I picked Jane Porter because she also has that sort of properness and shyness about her and has an analytical mind.
• I also chose Snow White as a Virgo alternate because she's cleanly and detail-oriented and likes to be helpful. The whole "Whistle While You Work" scene where she's comfortable correcting the animals' work just makes me think Virgo.

Libra diplomatic, romantic, indecisive, charming, social, easy-going, cultured
• I chose Giselle because she has an almost magical level of charm and persuasiveness. She's romantic and laidback, and can also be sort of a people-pleaser who finds it difficult to get angry at people (same with Aurora too). She's also artistic with her knack for sewing.
• Aurora is very Libra -- she has charm, is very romantic, has an easygoing go-with-the-flow sort of personality, is empathetic, and she has sort of a classic artsy / Venusian feel to her.

Scorpio perceptive, inwardly passionate/emotional, determined, vengeful, secretive, sensitive, inquisitive
• I picked Megara because she's a very outwardly cool, calm, sardonic person, but very passionate underneath. She's also secretive about herself but prying/mentally sizing other people up ("He comes on with this big, innocent farm boy routine but I could see through that in a Peloponnesian minute").
• I picked Pocahontas because she's inquisitive about other people and passionate but her face can be like a mask at times (for example, the ending). She's also very perceptive and accurate in her observations ("You think the only people who are people are the people who look and think like you").
• I chose Lilo as an alternate because she can be a bit cold-hearted and vengeful ("My friends need to be punished") but also very sensitive and emotional. She likes observing people too.

Sagittarius adventurous, honest, philosophical, optimistic, risk-taking, blunt, freedom-loving
• Esmeralda is very Sagittarius because she's adventurous and risk-taking and needs a life free from constraints ("Gypsies don't do well inside stone walls") and she has a jovial, partying spirit that works well for this sign. She also thinks about the human condition, another Sagittarius trait.
• I struggled a lot with Belle, but I considered Sagittarius a possibility because she craves "adventure in the great wide somewhere" which sounds like a Sagittarian thing to say and considers her town too provincial and narrow-minded. She's also a pretty frank person, I think. Not really blunt, but she still speaks her mind.
• I also put Merida as an alternate here, even though I think she's a bit more Aries, because she's adventurous, wants her freedom more than anything, and she's an archer. :)
• Pocahontas is the other alternate Sagittarius because I find her very similar to Esmeralda in personality (which is actually why I didn't want to have both of them in the main table; it's a bit redundant). But yeah, Pocahontas is adventurous and risk-taking and loves to have fun, but she's also philosophical as well.

Capricorn hard-working, ambitious, disciplined, responsible, organized, reserved, respectful of authority
• Captain Amelia is like Woody in that she combines the confidence and leadership of Leo with Virgo dryness of personality => perfect Capricorn. She fits the traits to a T.
• I also see Tiana as a perfect Capricorn because she embodies its most characteristic trait -- ambition. She has a clear goal and she works hard and works steadily and in the end achieves it. That's how Capricorns operate. She's also very serious and work-first-play-later, which contrasts with Naveen's lifestyle.

Aquarius inventive, humanitarian, eccentric, unconventional, individualistic, friendly but emotionally detached
• Mulan also gave me trouble but she ended up in Aquarius. I think she fits here because she's very unconventional and doesn't mind going against the grain. Her greatest strength from the beginning of the movie to the end is her out-of-the-box/inventive thinking. I can see many other signs in her, though.
• I put Alice here because she's very caught up in her own head and her own thoughts, and likes to think about things that aren't. She doesn't really fit all the traits but she is pretty independent and odd, I think.
• I also put Ariel as an alternate because she sticks out of mermaid society and is very individualistic. She's friendly enough but I think she's sort of in her own head so much that she's not really easy to know, which fits Aquarius.
• And I also put Belle as an Aquarius because, like Ariel, she has no qualms about being odd and the only person who thinks a certain way. She's a friendly person but doesn't have any close friends and seems mostly okay with the isolation.

Pisces imaginative, dreamy/fantasizing, artistic, idealistic, compassionate, submissive, gentle
• I picked Rapunzel because she's Quasimodo 2.0 she's artistic and imaginative, a very trusting person and very sensitive and easy to hurt.
• Ariel ended up here, although I think she's more Aries. But I do think Pisces fits because she has her head in the clouds a lot and she has sort of a disorganized/non-structural feel to her and she's dreamy and romantic. I don't think she's gentle/passive enough to really fit perfectly in Pisces, though, so maybe an Aries/Pisces mix works best.
• I had Alice as a Pisces originally because Pisces is what I associate with her indulgence in dream worlds. Other than that, though, I don't really see many of the other Pisces traits in her, so maybe she's better off in Aquarius.
• I also put Belle down (in case it's not obvious, Pisces was at some point my all-purpose back-up sign...) because her favorite books all seem to have fairy tale/fantastical plots and in terms of personality, she's very laidback/calm, which fits Pisces.
• Cinderella is yet another back-up Pisces because she's imaginative and very compassionate and kind-hearted and soft-spoken, which all gives me a very Pisces feel.
• And finally, I also put Mulan down for Pisces because she's adaptable and has that non-structured feel like Ariel. She's also very compassionate as seen in the scene where she comes across the burned village.

So yep, I'm done now.
