I had never thought of it that way, but this is a neat analysis! The rejection of food certainly seems like a strong connecting element. Very interesting!

You know, I really had never thought of it that way...but, you're right! It does seem like Hades and Persephone can be associated with Beauty and the Beast (particularly the Disney version!). Very interesting read! XD

This is exactly how I feel. However, I always thought the original version resembled Hades and Persephone than the Disney version, given the fact that in both versions the male proposes marriage to the heroine, who refuses day after day. That's not present in the Disney version. And I never once associated the myth of Eros and Psyche with Beauty and the Beast.

Also, I'd always assumed that in the original version Hades and Persephone genuinely loved each other. It's certainly portrayed that way in Percy Jackson. Though I suppose that could just be a rationalization. I never have read the myth in its original form.
