“You have got to be kidding me!” Sara barked at Grissom as she made her way to the couch with their drinks and a bowl of popcorn.

Grissom only shrugged and grinned in response.

“You can’t possibly be serious,” she continued as she plopped on the couch next to him, careful not to step on Hank who was stretched out at Grissom’s feet.

“Well, you have to admit, she does have the conservative base fired up.  There has to be something there,” he said as he reached out for a handful of Sara’s popcorn.

“Oh no you don’t mister,” Sara said as she swung the bowl away from him.

“Hey,” Grissom whined as he got a handful of air.

Hank seeing his opportunity carefully popped his head up to sneak some of the popcorn from the bowl.

“None for you either,” Sara said as she protectively moved the bowl on to her lap.  “Grissom, seriously, as a scientist, how can you support her?” she asked in a solemn tone.

Grissom scooted closer to her, putting one arm around her and one hand in the bowl on her lap. “Honey, I’m kidding.” He said as he took a handful of the crunchy snack and stared at Sara.  He still struggled with the thought of how close he came to losing her and moments like this were welcome, but rare.

“Well, ok then.  I was a little worried.  How can anyone support a Vice-Presidential candidate that views Darwin’s theory of evolution as a fairy tale?” Sara asked as she reached for her drink.

‘Don’t forget that she hunts moose,” Grissom added, knowing fully that the comment would get her fired up.  It was always one of his favorite things to see her excited and passionate, about things she cared about - anything really.

“Absolutely! But I am excited about Obama it looks like he is going to take it,” Sara said as she returned her drink to the coffee table.  “He has brought an energy to the country that no one has seen since…”

“Kennedy,” Grissom interrupted.

“Well, I was going to say Clinton, but Kennedy works too,” she said while giving him a nudge with her elbow.

Grissom rolled his eyes at her example.  Bill Clinton was no John F. Kennedy, but when he was in office, she wasn’t even born yet.  He marveled at how even though there were the occasional differences brought out because of their age, they were few and far between.  The misunderstandings usually resulted in laughter as opposed to a fight.

Grissom rubbed his eyes and looked over at his cell phone that was vibrating on the coffee table.  He reached out for it and saw that the lab was calling again.  As Grissom stood up to stretch, he watched the television coverage of Barack Obama accepting the Presidency in front of a crowd of thousands in the middle of Chicago’s Grant Park.  Looking in the other room, he could see Hank sleeping in his bed, not anywhere near him.

As Grissom shuffled to the bathroom to take a shower, he scratched his head and wondered if Sara had dreamed about him as well.
