A nice day...

Some of the world is still unspoiled. I live in part of that, gaining the benefits of clean livin', fresh air, open space and gobs of wildlife and nature in general. Here's an image from yesterday afternoon. A drive to a remote, hidden valley, then hiking with pounds of equipment including rolls of barbwire to repair miles of fences up and down ( Read more... )

I hope you enjoy it. I envy that kind of life a little more each and every day.

Yes, I do! Sometimes, it's not all fun and games (and sometimes it's life-threatening) but it's always better than smog, overcrowding and a too-busy lifestyle. Oh, I'm a slacker, that's why... ;)

Who knows? Maybe I'll host a BirdCon camp-out or something someday and all us birds and bird fans can come up for a weekend to birdwatch, sight-see, freak out the locals...not really. And there's like 20 people in a 20 mile radius. But it would be cool someday...

It looks stunningly beautiful there. From the moment I came home from the Rockies about 3 years ago, I wanted to go back. I think you're posting these pictures solely to torture me! Bah. ;)

Seriously, thank you for sharing. I'm glad that your work makes you so happy. :)

Soba-sama! Thanks for the message...Well, living out here is something pretty incredible. The work can sometimes be really rediculous considering how it's operated, but in the right hands and with a good attitude, ranching can be fulfilling.

Ironically, my first career choice back in High School was 'Forest Ranger' and other than the snazzy suits (and a livable wages), it's at least in the ballpark. Oh, and because of the classic, sexy mascot; Smokey the Bear! ;)

The fun part is we live in an 'island' mountain range which is isolated from the Rockies or any other mountains. So it's flat prairies until suddenly, there are three big cones popping up (there are two minor buttes too). On a clear day you can see the devide all the way up into Alberta and down to central Montana.

Such picturesque imagery... and great one with the hammer!! *ulp!*

Thanks for the peek into your pastures, pal! ^v^ *hug*

You should see the post-maul in action. It has a 16 lb. head, making for some sore hands after pounding all day. We do have a tractor with a pounder attatchment, but as you can tell it's not possible to get that up the mountains in some cases. And since I'm tall and about 30 years younger than my boss, I get the job.

Your cousin, a huge golden eagle, was flying low overhead as we were hiking up that day. I heard a loud screech, then noticed him about 15 feet above us and *WHAM!* He smacked a smaller bird with his wing to make it stop harrasing. No luck, the smaller one just kept on diving and chasing. Poor eagle!
