My mom turned 80 in December, and tomorrow she will celebrate her Bat Mitzvah! She never had one at 13, having been raised Orthodox where girls weren't allowed to read from the Torah ( Read more... )

That is so totally awesome! She will be in my prayers tomorrow during her "coming of age"--her generation is incredible, they really lived through so much and are amazing. Mazel Tov to your Mom--and to you, her incredible, awesome, amazing daughter!

WooHoo! I'm so excited for her. I have a number of friends who have had Adult Bat Mitzvahs and they're soooo special. :D

Mazel tov- I too was raised in an orthodox synangogue where women were not called to the Bima. My daughters were both Bat Mitzvahed as we belong to a conservative synagogue now, but I still feel uncomfortable on the bima and doubt I would ever do this.
