Jaejoong rarely attend parties like this but he can't get out of this one 'cause of his bestfriend Junsu. He is currently at his former highschool alma matter because of an alumni homecoming for their batch. He doesn't drink or smoke. He also hates dancing and ear-deafening music. So he cannot comprehend what came into his bestfriend's mind when he drag him to this party. If Jaejoong wasn't blackmailed by Junsu he won't be alone right now sitting at the school's canteen, which wasn't far from the gym where the party is being held.
Jaejoong looked around the canteen and remembered those times that they hid here to skip Phys.Ed. classes and also to skip dance practices for their field days. He smile as he remembered when their hoobaes complained almost everyday on why they always occupy the big table near the end of the canteen. He almost laughed when he remembered that one time they played truth or dare to kill time as they skip dance practice and Junsu ended up dancing something sexy while wearing a wig and a skirt.
Jaejoong was about to go back to the gym to say goodbye to his friends when his cellphone started ringing. When he checked it's his closest friend from work, Siwon. Actually Siwon's been really weird the past few weeks because he'll always call Jae after his shifts and would talk about how his shift was. How their subordinates are during the shift and those little things that happened around the hotel.
"Siwon-ah! I thought you have the night shift today?" Jaejoong said as he anwered the call.
"Nah, the schedule changed after you requested an off today. They gave me the midshift until this weekend." Siwon answered.
Jaejoong and Siwon spoke for a few minutes until someone came and sit beside Jaejoong. The newcomer sat facing Jaejoong, leaned his arm on the table and put his hand under his chin then stares at Jaejoong as he speak on the phone.
The newcomer was one of Jaejoong's closest friend when he was in high school. They were so close that most of their schoolmates thought they were in a relationship. And those who knew them personally thought they'll eventually be together. It also doesn't help that they are so comfortable with each other that skinship didn't bother them and think nothing of it. Well they were wrong because they never had a relationship. Jaejoong and Yunho never had a romantic relationship. The two of them would always dodge the question when the rumor started to spread. But eventually they got used to it that if someone asked them they'll just ignore it. Sometimes when Yunho is in a mood for fun he'll answer it with a shy smile and walk away. Usually when Yunho does that the rumors would get big again. When Jaejoong would asked why Yunho did it again. Yunho would just say that it keeps the girls away for a few weeks. And he'll have peaceful days again to spend with his favorite classmate. Jaejoong's heart hurts when Yunho do this because yes Jaejoong is in love with Yunho. He doesn't know how or when it started but one day he just realized that Yunho became a very important part of his life.
And unlike those romantic high school novels, Jaejoong knows that Yunho doesn't think of him that way. And he is sure that Yunho doesn't love him more than a friend. And for some reason that they both doesn't know they started to spend less time with each other when they got into college. It doesn't help that they attended different universities and also have different majors. As the time goes by without them realizing it they already have different set of friends and they also drifted away from each other as another year passed by. The calls stopped and as well as the occasional text messages of how are you's.And eventually on the start of their 3rd year in college they lost contact with each other at all. The last news Jaejoong heard of Yunho was during on their last year in college. A few days before their graduation he met a hoobae who shares the same major with Yunho and told him that Yunho is currently in a relationship at that time with one of his classmates. Upon hearing that Jaejoong immediately gave up the thought of seeing Yunho.
Yunho mouthed, 'Who?' to Jaejoong. Jae answered, 'Work friend'.
Jaejoong motions for Yunho to give him a few minutes to end his conversation with Siwon. When Yunho suddenly called his name, "Joongie-ah". When Jaejoong just looked at him and continue talking on the phone he called him again, "Joongie-ah".
'What?', Jaejoong mouthed as he asked for Siwon to wait a few seconds. "Joongie-ah", Yunho repeated.
"Yah. Jae, Jae, Jae. I already told you call me Jae. No more Joongie." The Jaejoong went back to talk to Siwon. Yunho then just stares at Jaejoong.
As Jaejoong told Siwon goodbye on the phone, Yunho started to speak again. "Joongie-ah, I wanted to ask you a question. And please answer me honestly-- no, actually swear to Junsu's head that you'll answer me honestly."
Yunho said with a serious look on his face. Jaejoong just stares at him blankly as he tilted his head just like before when he doesn't quite understand a situation or when he is puzzled.
"Tell me, if i courted and asked you out back then when we were still in high school would you say yes to me?" Yunho asked.
Jaejoong was dumbfounded as hell. But he masked it well with a smile and said as he place his hand on Yunho's cheek, "I think you already had too much to drink. You're talking nonsense, Yunho-ah. Enough with the drink. You have red cheeks already."
"No, just answer me Joongie. Yes or no? I need to know. Please?" Yunho said as he put his hand on top of Jaejoong's on his cheeks.
"Where did this question comes from? Huh?" Jaejoong asks but he already have a hunch on where this ridiculous question came from.
Yunho closed his eyes and sigh, "The guys are talking about what ifs and things we regretted the most when we were in high school. Changmin said what if we really became a couple. And some other things about us. He sounded so sure that you'll agree to date me if I just asked back then. And told me to confirm it by asking you. That's why I'm here."
Jaejoong made a mental note to himself to give Changmin his famous one touch later. He seriousy need to talk to his friends. They know that Yunho absorbs everything you said to him when drunk. He smiled to Yunho because it seemed like Yunho is so desperate for an answer. But actually he is afraid to answer. So he reply with,
"And what good will it do if I answer your question? It is already too late--"Jaejoong was not able to finish what he is about to say when Yunho interrupts him and said.
"I don't care! Just please answer my question, Joongie." Jaejoong doesn't know what to do anymore. Yunho doesn't make sense to him. He have Ara already on his side. He over heard that Yunho is already preparing to propose to her soon.
"I think you already know the answer to your question Yunho."
