Day 13 - Reptiles
The lizards, they have been running up and down the doors for the past hour, their green scales shining under the spheres of light floating in the room. Gathered in the big room, some of them rest quietly under the windows, as the night grows darker, the sky full of clouds.
The long, emerald snake is hissing as it slowly crawls on the cold floor, sidewinding towards the throne. It lifts its front, enough to reach the hand that’s lowering in the air, touching its head.
Ryohei smiles at it tenderly, a dark green snake already wrapped around his other hand, up to his elbow. “So you’re back.” He says, running two fingers softly over the emerald snake’s head, waiting until it makes another sound, until it slowly starts wrapping its body around his wrist. He lifts it up, until it’s not touching the ground anymore, until it’s resting on his chest, and Ryohei brings his face closer to it, carefully touches his skin with his lips. “Blood.” He whispers, his smile slowly turning darker, a wave of satisfaction running through his veins. “You’ve already fed yourself, that’s good…”
There’s commotion at the doors in that moment, the lizards climbing up the walls, or crawling down on the floor, disappearing into the corners. Some of them never make it there, a strong gust of air forcing the doors wide open, and there are white snakes slithering in, grasping at the lizards with their teeth, crushing them on the spot.
Ryohei tilts his head, still caressing the head of the emerald snake, while the dark green one slowly unwraps its body from his hand, slithers down to his ankle. The white snakes move to the corners, chasing after the lizards, but one of them stays, the longest of all. It stays, until the young man appears at the doors, his hair all messy and his face carrying a few cuts under his eyes and on his chin.
But he looks determined, he looks courageous…or maybe, he only looks stupid.
Ryohei’s lips curl upwards into a smirk. “I knew you would show up eventually, Noeru. Although I have to admit, a part of me was hoping you were smarter than this. Coming to claim the throne, it’s such a stupid move for someone as smart as you.”
“And I have to admit, a part of me was hoping you wouldn’t be here.” Noeru replies, white flames dancing in his palms, and the big snake moves again, slowly crawls towards the throne, never making it too close. “You do not deserve the throne anymore, not after the chaos you have caused.”
It makes Ryohei laugh, it really does. “Always second, always jealous…what makes you think you can win over me?” He asks, clearly entertained, and the dark green snake finally crawls away from the throne, towards Noeru’s snake. “You’re the last of the Whites, all the others are captured already…foolish boys, they really thought they stood a chance. I’m already expanding my control to the rest of the magical community, too. So what makes you think you can stop me?”
Noeru takes another step forward, and his snake stops in the middle of the room, lifting its head with a long, quiet hiss, as Ryohei’s snake approaches. The emerald snake slithers slowly over Ryohei’s shoulder, head sliding next to his chin.
“I admired you.” He says, and his voice is almost shaking with all the accusation. “I looked up to you, I wanted to be like you. But now, you are the kind of person the world can only suffer under. I did not come here knowing that I would win. I came here knowing that I have to fight.”
So noble, so brave, so cheesy…it almost gives Ryohei a headache, and he makes himself more comfortable on the throne, clapping his hands together slowly, his smile now frozen on his face.
“You know, I kept the boys alive, even after they were defeated, but you…it’s going to be such a pleasure, throwing your lifeless body to them, so they can give up once and for all…you Whites all disgust me, always so pure and so positive…”
“And you disgust me.” Noeru replies, raising his hand cautiously, the white flames still burning in his palm. “That makes us even.”
Another chuckle. So naïve…
“Oh, you would like that a lot, wouldn’t you?” Ryohei snickers, stretching his arm out, the emerald snake finally moving as well, slowly crawling down from his body to the floor. “Let us see what the outcome is, then. Bring it on.”
