Title: Bleed The Same
Fandom: Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou (or more like AU in Bakaleya universe)
Pairing: Maya/Sayuri
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Angst, Romance
Disclaimer: I own nothing but the plot
Summary: Part of an unfinished fic. A random AU where Sayuri has left school and belongs to a brothel (read the notes inside).

A/N: Don't ask me how or why. This was originally taken from an old fic of mine that I'm not writing anymore, but I wanted to give this scene a try. It has been edited a bit to be able to stand alone, but it may still seem weird, so I apologize in advance^^ Like the summary says, it's more like AU in Bakaleya, and Sayuri is part of a brothel. There's nothing else I can say without having to explain the whole plot of that fic, but I hope this works out.

BLEED THE SAME

The waves had calmed down by now, and it was only a light breeze that brought the water back and forth to the shore, making the sand melt as it was drown inside it. Sayuri dipped her legs deeper in it, and fixed her plaid skirt. The sun was about to set now, and nobody was around anymore. It was getting cooler and cooler, but she still didn’t want to get up. She hadn’t been to the beach for ages and the time she was spending now had run out of her hands so quickly that she hadn’t even managed to do half the things she wanted to.

But she was grateful, she couldn’t deny that. She was grateful for this day, because she had breathed the air outside the walls of that place and it was good, and fresh and basically everything she had missed. She had seen normal people who weren’t only interested in sexual gratification, she had eaten sweets she hadn’t been able to dream of and she had also tried on a new pair of shoes, even though in the end she didn’t buy anything. She didn’t want to take advantage of her savior, even though he had assured her that she could have anything she wanted today.

Suddenly, something was wrapped around her; she stroked the fabric of the familiar jacket and licked her lips.

“I didn’t say I was cold.”

“If I waited for you to say it, you’d catch pneumonia before we could even think about it.” Maya replied and she peered up at him with a look of disbelief. “What?”

“Are you implying that I don’t like telling you my needs?”

“No, I’m implying that you’re too proud to admit when you’re in trouble.”

She snorted, but Maya was so used to it by now that he didn’t really pay attention. Instead, he stood in front of her, holding his shoes in his hand and stretching the other one to her.

“We should go.”

“I don’t want to go.”

“I don’t want to go either, but you know very well that we have to be back by 10.”

“So? It’s not even 8.”

“I know it’s not…I just wanted to take you somewhere else as well.”

“Where?” Sayuri asked, narrowing her eyebrows in suspicion. Maya shrugged.

“I won’t tell you that.”

“Are you serious?”

“I am always serious.”

“You’re no fun.” Sayuri fretted, but she grabbed his hand nevertheless and he pulled her up, trying to adjust his jacket better on her shoulders. “And why is it ok for you to catch a cold and it’s not ok for me?”

“Because if you catch a cold, those who are in charge of you will be pissed at me and they might not let me visit you again.”

“What a convenient excuse.”

Maya pulled her closer and then pointed at her shoes that were tossed a few meters away. She sighed. Putting her shoes on meant that the fairytale was over, that the golden carriage would switch back into the simple, plain-looking pumpkin. She had no idea about the place Maya wanted to take her to, but even that wasn’t enough to distract her. Knowing that she’d have to go back in 2 hours made her heart cry. She was a free spirit, the luxurious cage they had prepared for her wasn’t what she dreamt of.

She took them in her hands and together, they walked barefoot until the start of the beach and then they wore their shoes again. The beach wasn’t the ideal date place when the weather would go crazy, but Sayuri had insisted to go there and Maya had no problem succumbing to her every wish. It was ok for him to do crazy things once in a while; after all, she didn’t have the chance to step out to the real world the way she wanted. Not that she had any desire to do so. Her trust in adults was long dead, and the only reason she still hadn’t run away was because she knew she would be chased until the edge of the world. Stiff or not, she still was popular enough to bring cash in, and the owner wasn’t the person who’d let someone go before milking the hell out of them.

“The next bus will be here in 10 minutes.” She heard Maya’s voice next to her and nodded. They walked slowly to the bus station and sat down on the old, rusty bench. She sneaked as close to him as she could, and Maya wrapped his arms around her, because the wind was getting stronger.

“I hope the place you have in mind is warm.”

“It’s not, but you have to bear with it, just like I did with this beach idea.”

“I thought you liked it.”

“I do. But it’s still your idea, so now you’ll have to bear with mine.”

She smiled before she could control herself and leaned her head on his shoulder, staring at the empty street. “Can we do it again?”

“Do what?”

“Hang out like this.”

“I’ll try.” Maya replied quietly, holding her even closer. “Although maybe you should wear something longer to keep your legs warm next time.”

“We can go to a hot place next time.” Sayuri mumbled, and Maya decided to remain silent and not reply with a snarky comment, even though there were so many ways he could go with it. The bus came eventually and they went on it, looking for free seats at the back. Not many people were inside; a couple of grandpas and a woman reading a book. Maya gently pushed Sayuri to move further inside and they sat next to the window. The bus was old and every time it reached a turn, Maya could feel Sayuri stiffening. He loved these small, unnoticed parts of her. She was brave and bold, and she could swear worse than a boy their age, but deep down, she was still a teenage girl. She had her very cute and feminine sides and he was glad he was the only one who could see them.

They got off right next to school and she looked at him questioningly. He tilted his head innocently.

“This is what I wanted to show you.”

“The school? I know the school already, is this really what you wanted to show me?”

“Yes. Come on.”

They climbed the walls and sneaked inside. It wasn’t dark yet and someone would definitely notice them if they weren’t careful, but…they were kids, and they were going through the so-called rebellious phase. If life didn’t include many stupid risks, it wasn’t worth it.

Maya led her inside the school and then they moved to the stairs. He kept silent throughout her questions about what he had in mind and where they were going, until they reached a door and he opened it, signaling her to get out first. And she did.

It was the rooftop, and it was lovely. She knew the rooftop just fine, but she still didn’t speak. She took a few more steps so that Maya could walk out after her and then stopped, staring at the view. It wasn’t like it was a very tall building, but it was tall enough to offer a lovely blue-ish sky and scattered street lights here and there. Not to mention the lack of annoying car sounds and people’s yells. She turned to look at Maya, who was looking at her with anticipation.

“Is this what you wanted to show me?”

He nodded and took her hand once more, leading her closer to the edge of the rooftop. “I know you’ve already seen this view in the morning. I come up here at least once a day, too, but the magic of sharing this night view with someone else is something I couldn’t describe with words.”

“Have you shared it with anyone else?”

“No.”

Her smile was brighter this time and she focused back on the view. The wind wasn’t bothering her now, even though it was stronger at this height. She stretched her hands out as if they were wings and closed her eyes, thinking that even if she was to die right now, she wouldn’t be scared at all. Maybe she could try flying; it couldn’t be that hard considering the strength of the wind and how light she was, right?

“It feels like I’m on top of the world.” She whispered, scared that the magic would die. But it didn’t. Maya held her hands and then brought them down along with his own, hugging her from behind and bringing his face next to hers.  “How come you never brought anyone else up here at this time of the day?”

“I can’t just bring anybody. I wanted someone who could really appreciate it as much as I do.”

“How were you so sure I can?”

“I was.” Maya answered calmly, stroking her fingers. Sayuri looked up at the sky; the clouds were getting bigger and bigger, taking scary forms, but she was too dazed to be afraid of something so childish. She was still the heroine of a fairytale, and they always ended with “happily ever after”, what was the point of getting scared?

“You shouldn’t spoil me that much, you know.” She let out after a few silent minutes. “A girl could really get used to it.”

“When I take you out of that hideous place, I’ll bring you here every night.”

“You can’t take me out, you idiot.”

“I can try.”

“Just don’t get my hopes up when it’s not necessary.”

“…sorry.”

“It’s ok.” She replied, pulling away in order to turn and look at him. “Thank you for today. Really.”

“I’m just glad you got to have fun.”

“Me too.” Sayuri nodded and she finally hugged him on her own, closing her eyes one more time when his arms closed around her waist. Maybe this was a good reason to keep going, to keep thriving to become stronger and stronger with each passing day. She would always say that love was for fools, that people like her had no bright future and no chance or hope of surviving. She had done her best to keep her defenses firm when Maya had fist set foot into her room. In less than 3 months, he had managed to change most of her beliefs and even though sometimes this change scared her to death, she couldn’t deny how she was head over heels for him. Whether this would last or not, she couldn’t tell, and that was the most frightening part of all.

She wanted it to last, even though it could be just a simple spark of interest between them. They had many years ahead of them, and many people to meet. Nobody could guarantee that what they had was real enough to survive; after all, Maya had every right to get bored of her and stop wasting his money on that place. But even though she was too proud to admit it, she had been dreaming so long for this type of guy, and she had already denied it to herself once when she was still at school, and now that she had him again…she was tired of dreaming. She wanted to live this fairytale until the end, the happy end.

“We should go.”

She nodded at Maya’s statement and they broke the hug to head to the door. Maya stopped her right before opening it, though, and pulled her into a last embrace, kissing her desperately, as if trying to make her understand that he was here, and that he wasn’t planning on going anywhere anytime soon. They had found each other at their lowest part of their lives; they had reached some sort of mutual understanding and there was no need for them to become separated.

“Are you ready to run?” he asked when they eventually broke the kiss and she looked at him curiously.

“Why?”

“Because that’s the one thing we didn’t do today. And I know you love running, so…how about competing to see who gets there first?”

“I have no idea how to get there from here, though.”

“Well…you’re faster, so I need some sort of leverage.”

“That’s not leverage, that’s cheating.”

“Are you in or not?” Maya repeated in amusement.

Not that she needed time to think, of course.

“Fine. Let’s run.”
