Dean had never considered himself a nice guy. He tried to do the right thing by most people, even if it was usually at great risk or cost to himself. But despite everything, the war, the apocalypse, the one-parent hunting family and raising his brother as best as he could only to find out he was Lucifer's meatsuit, some days he was as susceptible to petty little things as everyone else ( ... )

Jimmy had been standing adjacent to his editor, the cup of tea poised just beneath his chin as he watched her lean back into the cushions and return his glance with curiosity. In all honesty he wanted her out, it was unsettling having another woman in the house and so seemingly comfortable around him. He wasn't an idiot he understood social repertoire enough to know that this was a subtle come on and despite being a rather stern man in the past he had absolutely no idea what to do with himself now.

Instead he moved over to the sofa and went to gather the papers that were scattered about the living area, leaning over Jane to grab the collection of his rough drafts for his next piece as Dean moved through the door, catching Jimmy off guard and all but causing him to drop a few of the papers as he turned to make eye contact with the hunter.

"Who's this?" Jane asked, clearly interested. She had no idea he had a roommate. She assumed he was a roommate, at least, because Jimmy didn't exactly come off as fabulous not in person or through ( ... )

The second he got far enough into the house, Dean realized he should have trusted the instinct that said the day was going to get worse. Right now it wasn't so much suspicion, but more the fact that he'd been banking on getting a night alone with the other man. The benefits of having someone who understood his job but was grounded in real, normal life was something he'd never found valuable until things had developed between them, and right now he was feeling selfish and sore ( ... )

Jimmy could already tell that he was in trouble by Dean's forced chivalry and when he was finished gathering the papers he set them aside in the desk that overlooked the foyer and moved to follow Dean into the kitchen, leaving Jane sit there for the moment looking confused ( ... )
