Castiel, once Dean Winchester's closest friend and ally leaves back to his paradise for reasons unmentioned leaving a crucially injured Jimmy in his wake. Dean takes the vessel to his cabin and has the medic stitch him. Over the course of months spent searching for the colt and maintaining life at the refugee camp they grow closer. Jimmy's apt refusal to deny his faith and what he believes in and his innocence slowly humbles Dean's angry heart and though neither of them know when or if the angel is returning they develop a kinship and bond that keeps them both sane while they watch the state of the world digress.

Sam said yes to Lucifer, and, once the fallen angel had taken him as a vessel, plunged a sword forged in Heaven into his body, killing both himself and the devil.
God restores Sam's body and soul as a reward, returning him to Dean's side, and invites Castiel, the Winchesters' long-serving angel and friend, back Home.
Castiel leaves behind the Winchester boys and Jimmy, his devoted vessel. The hole left in all their lives is great, but none moreso than in Dean's and Jimmy's, and as they struggle to live without him, they find a surprising amount of comfort in each other.

The Apocalypse is different than the Slayer has ever experienced it, and now she joins Team Free Will in the fight to save the world from the clashing swords of both Heaven and Hell. Castiel makes less frequent appearances, so Jimmy finds himself tangled in the web that is the Apocalypse without the angelic touch. Amelia and Claire were, regardless of Jimmy's devotion to Heaven, hunted down. Team Free Will is all he's got left. Buffy takes a particular interest in him and makes it her business to make sure he's well protected.
