Adam could never figure out why he felt the way he did about Lawrence. He had shot him, then left him to bleed out in the that dirty bathroom.
So why? Why did he kiss him?
Maybe he was just confused, because Adam couldn't necessarily say he's ever been in love. Not real love, anyway. And Lawrence was probably in the same exact situation for that matter. Maybe he wasn't cheating on his wife the night Adam had followed him, but he had done things previous nights.
"I would never do that to you." His voice was genuine, which is what made Adam's heart ache with confusion. "You're too important to me."
Lawrence had proven how sorry he was for inflicting any pain on his body previously. The walls of the bathroom had changed them into monsters. With every second they got closer, deepening the already intense pressure between them until Lawrence's last resort was to shoot Adam. Lawrence cringed every time he saw the scar. It made his heart turn to concrete and his eyes swell with apprehension. Every time his shoulder was exposed Lawrence heard Adam's cried in the back of his head., and as if he were making up for it, he kissed the scar with his eyes closed to hide the anxiety within them. Adam never objected; it was as if he were soaking up any bit of affection he could get.
Adam had as much to apologize for as Lawrence did. He helped ruin his life. He had stalked him; watched his every movement like a hawk. If it weren't for Adam, they would have never been in that mess.
But they also never would have met.
"I would have cut off the rest of my limbs for you, Adam." His words stamped deep into Adam's brain, deep enough to shatter in purity in his thoughts. "I would do anything to take away that scar."
He meant it, too.
More than anything, it ashamed him. He hated thinking about how damn stupid he had been. Thinking back, if someone he had loved as much as he loves Adam now were in trouble, he would shoot them in a heartbeat.
He would be lying if he said his relationship wasn't stressful. It was full of a lot of sleepless nights, but he didn't mind not sleeping because that meant seeing Adam just a little longer. His eyes were tightly hugged by dark bags, but not even that bothered him.
"Lawrence," Adam would sob after emerging out of the brink of his hellish sleep. "Don't leave me."
The crying stopped after he had held him. "I'm all yours," he whispered, kissing his forehead. "Nothing will ever hurt you," he felt his heart beat through his tee - shirt. "Not as long as I'm around."
