This was a really lovely fic. You've convinced me of the pairing between Andy & Richie, and I love all the background characters as well (Jo! Ben! Gael! Stan! <3333)
I had a bit of a chuckle imagining Andy as a writer when he hasn't read a book since he was a kid, IIRC. But that's the glory of AUs! :) And I bet his sharp sense of humour comes in handy for the writing.
This is a pity because Andy has noticed Richie has a rather nice smile; it just appears fleetingly and at the oddest of times. If Ben has inadvertently done something funny, Richie turns his back or starts focusing on the food display or anything other than to admit giving in to Ben.
I love this line and how you've highlighted the attraction even this early on.
Ben returns with a smirk on his face and arms crossed. "It takes me yelling for you to be all punny?" He then realizes Andy is there and mutters, "Figures."
I really really love your Ben in this. :D And your Richie. :D And your Andy. :D The three of them play off each other so well.
Back when Andy's first book came out, I distinctly remember Novak commenting on that exact thing. However, at that point, they weren't back to being friends and Novak was being a cocky jerk in post-winning-first-major afterglow (this was around Wimbledon 2008 - Andy appeared on Jonathan Ross then as well) so it came off as insulting.
I had so much fun writing Ben in the context of exasperated bystander (and likely gossip to the day crew). That said, Gael mentoring Ben is a recipe (heh) for disaster.
I will someday figure out why I like writing these two together so that I'm not so thankful for silly nuggets like Andy defending Richie's skills when the commentators went on and on about Richie not belonging at WTF. These two have the weirdest H2H (I would say that, if a healthy Andy played WTF this year, I'd wager on Richie winning).
