so last night i went to see nine inch nails at america west arena. this was my third time ever seeing them and my third time seeing them this year. i picked up paul and steve and we got there during queens of the stoneage. they fucking blew. after they played that stupid song they play on the radio and they kept "fake stopping" and then playing again. then, after the band stopped playing, the singer kept singing and i kept picturing the band saying in their head "dude, we told you to cut out the solo in rehersal..." lol. we ran into jon while we were getting our seats though. it was cool he was in the same section. we were in section 114, row 7, which was like, the first "anchored" row up front with a few folding chair rows in front of us. we had awesome seats.
after that, steve and i walked around to get a drink. i ran into this guy justin who i haven't seen in ages that used to be friends with luke. i then ran into his friend donny. on our way back, we ran into mark, ruben, and rex, who were all drunk, lol.
when we got back to our seat, we noticed taylor was sitting next to john, taylor had gotten free tickets and apparently they were close to john, and in our section. for some reason i thought the other band was going to play, but then nin came out. they opened with "love is not enough". they had this mesh screen that went around the front and sides of the stage like a box. they performed love is not enough behind that, with tons of fog going. so fucking awesome.
then they went into wish and of course the crowd was going crazy. so much energy. trent is a god and you just can't keep your eyes off him. i have never felt this way about a performer before, each show this year has kept me captivated.
the stage had higher level platforms in the back for the drummer and the keyboard player and the two guitar players were in front of them on the ground. they had these jack-o-lantern looking teeth on the stage that lit up:
fucking badass. seriously. they had them across the floor and ceiling and in front of the keyboard player and drummer. speaking of the drummer, you could tell he wasn't able to give it his all last night like he did at coachella, banging his arms into the drums, but he was still good.
*trent gushing*
i can't remember what was after wish, but i know i couldn't keep my eyes off the stage. trent had shaved his head and he looked like some sort of mad max warrior. he had on a black tank top and black pants. his arms, his arms *drools* so tight and they shined in the light. i couldn't keep my eyes off him. his presence takes over the whole arena. you can feel every song ripple out of him. gorgeous, i couldn't stop thinking of all the dirty things i would do to him...
*/trent gushing*
the best part though was when they played DOWN IN IT!!! that is my all time favourite nin song (that, and wish). when they started playing it, i was literally in shock and kept wondering what the song was, cause it couldn't be down in it and steve was like "ivy, they're playing it!" lol. oh man, heaven on earth... i could have died smiling. that was probably my favourite, along with sin. i don't remember them playing sin at the other shows, but paul says they did at at least one of them, but i don't remember. love is not enough, you know what you are, wish, and wretched were awesome too. they also played some new song that i can't really remember, but it was alright. prolly needs to grow on me.
their set list (not really in order, please add what i missed):
love is not enough
wish
you know what you are
terrible lie
burn
only
pinon
wretched
the line begins to blur
sin
march of the pigs
right where it belongs
beside you in time
starfucker
head like a hole
down in it
*the new song*
closer
hurt
hand that feeds
MmMmmmmMmMmm, i can't get over how good the show was though. during either right where it belongs or beside you in time (or both, can't really remember), about halfway through the show they brought down the mesh screen again and had a projector projecting on the screen. they started off with cells moving around and then moved into life formation and plants, animals, and all sorts of other primal stuff. they also flashed in images of really obnoxiously happy commerical looking people and track housing and these images of cotillion style dancing and then they faded that into the bushes dancing and that was pretty funny. really fucking cool though.
after that, they did this thing where they projected something that looked like rain with thick raindrops pouring down on the screen and the back wall, but then, in the middle of that, there were the stage "teeth" i showed before with an image of the rain going up instead of down, fucking sick and words cannot describe.
all in all, a great show. taylor said they kinda "phoned in" closer, and i agree, he was WAY more into it at coachella, but still, great performance, as always. you can't help but want to throw trent on the ground and fuck him endlessly... lol.
i'm glad i got to see them a third time and got to hear down in it and sin (again?). i was surprised to hear starfucker. i would really like to hear sanctified instead of hurt next time and perfect drug.
i looked pretty cute i might add too, i wore what i wore to enchantment (minus monkey's kick-ass hair styling), but i had black fishnets over my green fishnets and a black corset over the lacey shirt, i actually looked like a "ravergoth" (as paul put it) princess aurora at the beginning of sleeping beauty, 'cept my skirt was maroon.
but yeah, GREAT show. third time was just as good as the first two, though the coachella performance on acid was my obvious favourite.
