I use the term "Quasi-IC" to mean that the normal game rules will be suspended during that session; I'll make it clear to players that that session is *not* intended for PvP, etc. It's quasi-IC the same way old-style Strom player events were quasi-IC; the social contract of being "IC" is in play, but the rules system is not.
The reason is quite simple, I just don't want players killing, maiming each other etc before the campaign actually starts. I have a lot planned for the first few minutes of the following day, and I would hate for people to miss it just because someone got excited during what is, ultimately, a fancied-up briefing sesh...
