Title: Getting Past It
Author: frey-at-last
Pairing: Jack/Liz (background Jack/Avery)
Spoilers: None, but set in S5
Rating: PG

(I wrote this a couple of weeks ago, so it doesn't take into account 5.11, but I found it tonight and didn't want to bother switching around the wedding-baby-whatever sequencing.)

I really like this. I love the idea of Jack having had feelings for her and 'getting over them' (I know we've discussed this before, but it really makes sense in canon), and also love the idea of those past feeling flaring up. And I find this idea:

Yet he sometimes thinks that if things had gone differently with her - with Lemon - he wouldn't have known or loved the others. He thinks he would still be with Liz.

Sort of sad and lovely.

The moment with Avery really sticks out for me, too. I like the description of their life together as precarious, because I think it should be as such, even if the show seems to hammer home the idea that they're the perfect couple.

It does make sense! I still waffle about why or how he would have gotten over it, but, it's almost-canon to me that he did. Because it helps me enjoy things.

I think anything I write about Avery will have to be like, "she's kind of angry and they don't have too much fun together... but love! yay." It will be ambivalent, I mean.

I'm glad you thought it was sad; I'm into writing wistful 30 Rock at this point, so watch out for some more... sometime in the next six months...

I think Jack can probably get over love easier, or at least told himself he has, so I do kind of feel like he thought 'this will never happen' and then fell in love with twenty other women.

I think anything I write about Avery will have to be like, "she's kind of angry and they don't have too much fun together... but love! yay." It will be ambivalent, I mean.

I think that's the way I'd write about them, too, now... but I tend to write about them already broken up. I WONDER WHY.

I like reading wistful 30 Rock, so I will look forward to it! Whenever it happens...

You know these two will forever be thinking 'What if?' You make that seem so real in this fic and IT IS MADE MY HEART ACHE LIKE CRAZY. I loved it.

Thank you! Yeah, I think if they keep being close and since they didn't start OUT completely asexual buddies, there might always be a little bit of uncertainty about that. In my version of them, anyway.

Glad you liked it! :D
