I miss that house too, and remember the week we would spend between Christmas and New Year's there. In alienating them, I also appearently managed to insult our aunt's religion (Catholisism), by confiding in her about mom's concerns about the boy I was dating (she told me to be careful about getting too serious, I was just rolling my eyes that she was talking about me marrying someone at 16).

Trust me that I have tried to reconcile many times, to the point where I called them in college and she told me "I like things the way they are." However, I did get to see Grandpa last spring break, and we have sent him pictures of the baby. Ahh well, still boggles my mind that they would estrange the only family they have.

It was a very strong random association in my mind at the time, and I'm not sure why I felt so strongly about it when I saw it. Oh well, I'm not sure why they happened but at this point I feel more attached to the house than to them. And it's their fault, you know? They were the ones who decided to do this, so despite the fact that I enjoyed their company when I was a kid, I feel like it's not worth the effort to get to know them now that I'm an adult.
