i feel in years to come there will be a little note in all history books that marks the moment when shatner went from a bit embarrassing to God.

You have put this so much more eloquently than I can manage stuffed full o' Thanksgiving bounty. :D

So much this ♥ Shatner's like having a grandpa who thinks it's fun to belch the national anthem in public, then nonchalantly does something so awesome that you've just got to hug him (even though you're still blushing from the belches).

Come to think of it, he did do the national anthem. Best version EVER.

Hee, you're welcome!

I went to the YouTube page after watching this. Turns out Shatner recorded this for State Farm last year after burning himself with his turkey fryer. How awesome is it that he parlayed the experience into a hugely comic PSA? The man is amazing ♥

A round of applause for you and another for Shatner. I've been humming this all morning, damn you. School drop-off was even more awkward than usual -- "You want a what?" another parent said, trying not look like they were backing away.

It is terribly catchy, isn't it? With that undercurrent of minor-key menace.

True confession: until I saw this video I'd never even HEARD of a turkey fryer. Is it very popular in the U.S.? It sounds so exotic!

I donno, I live in New Zealand where turkeys are something we roast in a hot oven on stinking hot Christmas days and then eat with boiling hot boiled vegetables. If you're not gently sweating through Christmas lunch you're not doing it right.

Oops, sorry, I had a shatnerian moment there and got confused about where you live :-D

Does anyone ever commit sacrilege and eat, say, slices of cold turkey with potato salad and chilled roasted vegetables? Because that would seem to be sooo much more sensible.

We do Thanksgiving in Canada, too, but a month earlier than the Americans. In our case it's more of a British-style harvest festival, but with a side of flightless fowl.

You're welcome!

The advert is actually a year old, but I didn't find that out until after I posted it. Has everyone else seen it already? *worried eyes*
