The nice part about this whole shindig is that the Seoul's govenor/mayor?) proclaimed a public apology to the U.S. for the abusive representation of it's countrymen. This just infuriated me, because it's not because the mayor SHOULD have...he/all of South Korea should not be held accountable for that psycho's decision to take matters into his own hands! It's just so damn frustrating! That apology wasn't for any other reason except that he probably knew that the ignorant masses, unless appeased, would take their own sense of justice on anyone that looked asian to "get back" at whoever...kind of like Marium's experience...but a little less on target, because you know how we all look alike. :( booo.
I was totally waiting for you to make this post. After they said he was from south korea somehow I knew that was going to affect you somehow. Lemme know if people start giving you crap; I'll put it in a bag and set it on fire on their front porch.
You guys are awesome. Thanks for the sweet support. I've been following this story pretty closely, and when it was made apparent that he was of South Korean origin... I can see how 9/11 made quite a few muslims uncomfortable.
yeah, that apology was pretty ridiculous, and motivated only by politics. we discussed these events for an entire class period each in my social work and psych classes. everyone in my psych class was going on and on about how hard it must have been for the poor immigrant to come here and be surrounded by rich americans...he was eight when he came to the country. he was assimilated. people are stupid. i just saw a great korean movie, though. the host. you should see it! also, i'm wearing my korean name ring. i think subconsciously i'm having bouts of ethnic pride to compensate.
XD hahaha, I'm completely there with you. *rage* Thanks for the recommendation, I remember reading about the Host and thinking it'd be nice to see...but it wasn't showing on any near by screens at the time. I'll be sure to rent it! Oh man, "the poor immigrant"?! Wow, how did you sit through those classes? Were you quiet? :o
