CHARACTER INFORMATIONSERIES: Pokemon Platinum
NAME: Dawn
RACE: Human
AGE: 16
CANON POINT: after catching Giratina
REFERENCES:
wikiGENDER: female
APPEARANCE:
Dawn is a slender teenager with dark hair, usually with pink or yellow triangle-shaped hairclips, and dark blue-grey eyes. Standing at slightly under average height, she may seem even smaller (and younger) when bundled up to the nines, although she has a pair of rather long legs. She’s seen usually wearing a white beanie-like hat with a circle design on the front, a black sleeveless vest over a sleeveless white shirt, and pink skirt and boots; when it gets too cold, she puts on a dark pink or red heavy jacket over her outfit. She also wears a scarf wrapped loosely around her neck, either white or red, and carries around a duffel with all her belongings in it.
PERSONALITY & HOUSE REQUESTS:
A bright and optimistic teenage girl from tiny Twinleaf Town who is currently traveling through Sinnoh trying to collect all the gym badges, Dawn has a gentle and kind nature; she's very friendly and open to everyone she meets, although she may come across as a bit childish at times, especially when she persists in trying to think the best of everyone. It's with this personality that even the most aloof Pokemon that she catches gradually warms to her; winning them over with time as they share battles and adventures together, she slowly forms close bonds with her team, the closest being with her first Pokemon, Piplup, who has now evolved into Empoleon.
A key factor of Dawn's personality is that she wants to do what's right - when she sees someone in trouble, her automatic response, whether they be human or Pokemon. She doesn't do it in the hope that she'll be rewarded or recognized for her deeds (although it would be nice, she has to admit) but because she holds an almost childlike and ridiculously naïve belief that everyone should help one another to the best of their ability, almost to the point of prioritizing others before herself. She doesn't really think of the danger or harm to herself when she immediately agrees to a little girl begging for Dawn to free her father who'd been taken hostage by Team Galactic. In fact she doesn't even need to be asked, such as noticing two Galactic thugs trying to extort honey from a single man when she was simply passing by and immediately jumped in to defend him - showing that she's either brave or recklessly stupid.
Unfortunately her naivety means she has a hard time detecting any ulterior motives. In a small, sleepy town such as Twinleaf where everyone knows one another, it's hard for Dawn to be suspicious and cautious of strangers. Always going out of her way to stop and talk to anyone on her journey, she fails to recognize Cyrus as a suspicious character despite running into him several times where he would depart after saying something ominous. Shrugging him off and classifying him as simply being 'weird' before continuing on her journey, it was a complete shock to her when she snuck into Team Galactic's HQ and discovered that their leader was none other than Cyrus himself.
Fortunately, she isn't a complete and total idiot - just when it comes to judging character - having been skillful enough in battle to earn six of the needed eight badges. Of course, that could also be attributed to her own stubbornness. Whenever she suffers defeat, she refuses to be discouraged and, after some training and sometimes reshuffling of her team, is soon back on her feet, ready to challenge the gym leader or trainer again. Another quirk of Dawn is her rather enthusiastic and strong curiosity of Pokemon - whenever she sees a strange or unknown creature to her, Dawn's first reaction is to try and attempt to catch it. However, despite that, Pokemon are everything to her - friends, family, partners, and companions that she values as much as her human friends. Even if she does cram them in tiny little balls and force them to battle, but that's beside the point.
She'd fit perfectly in either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff - in all honestly, it's a complete toss up either way for me, but character wise she'd probably prefer Gryffindor just a tiny bit more. She's certainly brave (either that or recklessly stupid) and never one to back down, while always being polite and helpful to friends and strangers alike. However, she also displays the traditional Hufflepuff traits: 'just and loyal'. She believes in fairness and equality, keeping an open mind to everyone and everything, and always one to stick by someone's side through thick or thin if she's promised to do so.
COMMUTER DETAILS:
None, although if she had access to Voldemort, she'd be constantly badgering him about his misdeeds and basically trying to Dr. Phil him.
POSITION:
Student
ABILITIES & POWERS:
No special powers, except for the power of FRIENDSHIP!!! Although her skill as a trainer might be translated as an ability where she gets along remarkably well with animals, magical or non-magical, almost as if she had an affinity for them.
WAND:
Alder, unyielding, 13 1/2 inches with its core made from a transformed
Griseous Orb. The unyielding nature of the wand comes from the wood itself, which works best when placed with someone helpful, considerate, and likable. The core is made from the orb found by Dawn in Giratina's world and can only be used by Giratina itself - and it was suggested that it was perhaps her destiny to meet Giratina in that place. In a way, this wand is Dawn's partner and companion, like a Pokemon, one with a unique and one of a kind bond to its owner.
MISC.:
If allowed, Dawn will be bringing along her Bidoof from her
Pokemon team, as a pet.
WRITING SAMPLESFIRST PERSON:
[ QUILL ]
[ The writing on is lopsided and barely even legible, as if the author is completely unused to handling a quill, but the enthusiasm and excitement of the author certainly comes through. ]
Today I had my first Care of Magical Creatures class, it was as exciting as the time I fell in the lake trying to get closer to the giant squid! Although I really want to see it up close one day, I've heard that the Slytherin common room can see under the lake - I wonder if it's easier to see it from there? I'll have to find out where the room is!
[ She'll figure out how to enter the room when that challenge comes up; the writing continues cheerfully on. ]
I was really excited to take this class, I've already read the book from cover to cover! Although I haven't memorized it all yet. The teacher didn't seem that happy when they found me in the pen before class, but I was trying to get to know the animals better - it's really weird as thinking of as that, I have to keep on reminding myself not to call them 'Pokemon' - and they were really firm when I asked if we were going to use them to battle each other. It looks like there's no Pokemon battling in this place - I haven't had anyone challenge me, even when I had Bidoof out with me. Then again, I haven't noticed anyone using Pokeballs...
I wonder if I can make magic Pokeballs?
THIRD PERSON:
Dawn padded silently through the dark hallways, heart pounding as she glanced around surreptitiously to make sure no one was around, ready to bolt into the nearest hiding place. After all, it was after hours and she was a student, so if someone were to catch her-- Well, she wouldn't mind the inevitable detention; it was the deduction of points she was trying to avoid. After all, she wanted her house to win - and it wasn't too late to turn back, in fact. No one had found her yet, and if she crept back into her bed and snuggled under the covers, no one would ever know she'd been skulking around after hours.
But she was determined - tonight was going to be the night. It was now or never, and in fact, her goal was just in sight. Perking up, heart now pounding in anticipation, she quickened her pace, her target seemingly oblivious to her sneaking up on it, and then she pounced, the ghost-catching bag that she'd been assured was 110% authentic out in her hands--
"I gotcha now, Peeves!"
Later own, Dawn had to explain to the teachers how she had been found hanging upside down in a public and rather embarrassing place, among other things.
