Evacuation

The neighborhood to the east has been evacuated. A friend from Temecula called to say that her mother-in-law (who lives in the neighborhood I just mentioned) was currently driving north to stay with them. My neighborhood is on alert for possible evacuation. The fires seem to be moving east (they "jumped" Interstate 15) - away from us, but we've ( Read more... )

What is a chaparral canyon? Obviously not a good thing...

Chaparral is a local variety of flora that tends to be dry and makes excellent fuel for fires. :(

As dry as I remember that area being, I'm surprised we didn't experience more brush fire when we lived there.

oh my, I didn't realize you were in chaparral CA. be careful! I hope they can get the fires under control soon. :(

I'm in La Jolla, but there's plenty of chaparral in the canyons around here. It's so odd to think of wildfires around here. There are literally a couple thousand people who live on my block (it's all apartments), and considering how urban the neighborhood is, it's odd to think about possibly evacuating. It seems very unlikely that we will be evacuated though.
