FinalsHear that? It's the sound of my brain collapsing. I am in serious danger of not getting a C in one of my classes (and therefore, not graduating). Final papers are past me, and my remaining exams are both not until Friday. I love the smell of blue books in the morning. 6 hours straight of exams . . . I can feel my right hand cramping now

It's good that you have all of your books organized; I think that's a start to your place really feeling like home. I can't feel comfortable in a place until my books are set up. I think the fiction in a place where you can easily grab it and curl up is a good idea :D I'm sorry about the movers and the insensitive comment of your friend...some people just don't get things, argh. I can't wait to see pictures of your house!!
Maybe the guy at the dealership will be wrong and the Prius will be priced lower. Not that the Civic is a bad choice, but having a hybrid would be really cool :) I can't believe that Corollas in the SW don't have ABS; they're standard here. Crazy stuff, but hopefully you'll figure it out soon so you don't have to worry about it.

ABS on Corollas have never been standard, but dealerships in 90% of the country aren't dumb enough to order them without ABS, so you'd have a hard time finding one without ABS outside the Southwest. (Can you buy one and mail it to me? *grin*) The fleet manager did a regional search, and out of several thousand new Corollas for sale in SoCal, two had ABS. Oy. The first (pushy) salesman we spoke to said, "you don't need ABS. It hardly ever rains here!" Exactly why I do need ABS - because these idiots don't know how to drive in the rain. In the Midwest (when it's not below freezing), you get a lot of light showers, and a few days of heavy storming. In SoCal, you'll go 8 months without feeling a single drop of rain on your shoulder, then come January the "monsoons" hit. There's no such thing as a shower here; it's desert or flooding. And because there are only about 15-18 days of rain all year, these yahoos don't know how to deal with it - not that it would take much more than 2 brain cells to rub together, mind ( ... )

Oh cool...I'll take whatever pics you have a chance to send or put up (my inbox is fairly empty right now;)). It'll be fun to see everything :D

I liked reading about your bookcases and moving. It must be nice having so many bookcases and having them all organized. I know I never feel settled in to a place until my books are organized. I can forget everything else after that. I'm sorry to hear about the remarks of your movers and your friend, but I'm also glad that you know what you want and don't feel a need to fit in and want "something desirable". I think your house sounds pretty desirable the way it is!

I think anything where I don't have to pay a landlord was desirable to us.

It never ceases to amaze me how rude and tactless people can be. The house works for you (and sounds very nice), and that's all that is important. I'm so excited about getting my own place in a few months and being able to put bookshelves all around the apartment. One of life's great pleasures for bookworms, I think. :)
I learned to drive on a Civic and I've always liked them since then.
