to me the cracker or Christ-chex if you will never tasted like other crackers... nor did it have a cracker consistency it was wafer like.
as for the kidnapping charges yeah it's going to far to try and make it an actual criminal charge but because Catholics believing that when said wafer is blessed it becomes the *actual* body of Christ I can see how they could *think* of it that way. I'm not defending their actions at all but I can see where they are coming from
The part where they consider the cracker the actual body of Christ is where they need to stop playing pretend long enough to be at least pseudo-rational. Having religious beliefs that conflict with observable fact is where people have to start rationalizing, and the upset Catholics in this story have been doing a very shoddy job of it. I mean, right now they've rationalized that the cracker is enough of a human being to be kidnapped yet not enough of a human being for consumption of it to be cannibalism. WTF? Why not use some rationalization to retcon the "kidnapping" part by saying -- let's say -- that the cracker is only the body of Christ while in the presence of the blessing priest.
