I've been doing a lot of stuff with ACA so far. I feel we have gotten off to a pretty good
First, I got to be the MC for the orientation meeting. I'm beginning to really like speaking in front of big groups of people. I don't think I could have done that a year ago, so it means I've grown to some extent. I tried to keep the several hundred people entertained with my corny humor, and I think it generally worked. Not a HAHAHA laugh, but a good chuckle =).
Annie, Me and Mike.
Next came the orientation picnic. I volunteered to put it together with Jeff. You might think there isn't much planning that goes into a picnic, but there actually is. We had to think of games to play, how much food to buy, and most importantly, HOW TO KEEP MEMBERS ENTERTAINED. I always worry about making a bad first impression, because I usually do.
One of the games we organized was a photo scavenger hunt. At first it sounds like you have to run around with a group and take pics of certain people, places, or things. Almost. Basically, we gave each of the 5 groups a list of pictures they have to take with their group. All people in their group have to be in the pic, minus the camera person. Some of my favorite examples:
Animal Shot: each person in your group needs to be an animal.
Walking down Bruinwalk shot: self explanatory, and probably only UCLA people will get this one.
Clothing the Invisible Person Shot: yah, disturbing but funny picture no?
We had good turnout and I had a LOT of fun.
Last thing I helped organize was the general meeting this Wednesday. We were expecting maybe 50 something people but ended with almost DOUBLE the people. We had to move the meeting outside because the room we had was too small.
We started off with an icebreaker called "human dormroom". You have to use the people in your group to make a dormroom.

After that, we had another game where each group had to produce their own music video. I wish we had gotten video, because some of these groups were great. Scary how one group of mainly girls knew all the lyrics to Bye Bye Bye
OOOOOOO here's the best part of this meeting. This is one of the main reasons I even bothered doing this LJ entry. So at the end of meeting, the judges decided which music video was the best of the groups. The group that did Hollaback Girl won. Yes, yes, good job. Anyways, we were going to give free tshirts to the winners of the game, but I thought it'd be funny to throw in some Family Guy. So I had an empty box (as shown)
and I told the group, "Alright, you can either have the tshirts....or whatever is in....THIS BOX!"
*my fellow staffer chimed in* "A shirt is a shirt...but a box could be ANYTHING, even a shirt!"
Everyone laughed, and I thought we had finished the joke and could just give the group the shirts. Then the group asked me if they could meet up and discuss. *HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA* I cracked up so much inside.
They asked if they could touch the box and if they could shake it. I said no to both.
So what do they end up doing? THEY CHOSE THE BOX. THEY CHOSE THE EMPTY BOX! I never knew curiosity was such a strong force...must keep that in mind. Made my day...
*oh yah, the group ended up getting the shirts, even though they blew it. =)
