A journal of a David-Tennant-trip without David Tennant

Jan 04, 2009 20:13

Everything was perfectly planned since June.

I was going to met my former Kaethel friend (now Kae_nine) and trip to London to see Hamlet starring David Tennant. Plus new Christmas special on TV and then New Year's eve with H (another Kae_nine nick)'s friends.

I left my place on 24 December after only 3 hours pf sleep, and after 6 hours of train there she was "KAE-9!"

Very geek of me but could I start a DT related holiday without a Doctor Who quote. Spelling differently I know, but the sound is the same! And also when Could I use that quote if not with her?

We moved from Gare du Lyon to Gare du Nord, and now I can say I saw the Tor Eiffel, and the Louvre (from inside a cab, but who cares).

And on the train toward London I showed H. her new obsession: Blackpool!

And that's how we spent the most of the trip. No, I don't mind Paris-London, I mean the most of the time together. As obsessive fans, but it's not our fault.

I can share the faults between:

David Tennant: because his Peter Carlisle is sweetest copper ever! And I had no idea that a Food addiction could be so Sexy! No joke about that... Seriously. That's probably his sexier character ever. I Seriously LOVE Carlisle!

The other actors: because both David Morrissey and Sarah Parish are wonderful. How Sarah Parish is able to portrait so much pain with a single gaze is a mystery.

The creator/writer & Directors: because I love how they created the characters, there is no one good or evil, it's not a black and white world. It's a world where everything is complicated. I love that.

The songs: because they are great!

So... do you see? It's not our fault!

A big huge Thanks is sent publicly to Yvonne for allowing us to stay at her place, that is adorably comfortable and her bed is a paradise (even with the evil alarm clock).

So... Kae-9 and I spent Christmas day watching Blackpool (and re-watching it) and The Next Doctor plus the confidential.

I'll add a review of The Next Doctor soon and about how David Morrissey almost stole the scene (the spot light?) to DT.

The Boxing day was about touring London (mostly to find a KFC) and shopping (not so much).

We almost run (laterally) when we found the Novello theatre and we saw the Hamlet poster. And than we found out they changed the poster: No more David Tennant with an hat, but Edward Bennett. Doh! SIGH.

Of fair enough It's his Hamlet now(or at least was until yesterday, when DT reprised his role), and he deserved that, but still SAD.

So, the 27, the Hamlet day, we moved in a hotel, in London, a 4 star one, God bless the Discount offer that made him cheaper than a hostel!

And here the Hamlet review, sorry Guys.

Have you ever seen Hamlet? It's not a comedy, just in case you don't know that (Mind you, I prefer Shakespeare's "Happy" stuff like Much ado for Nothing or A Midsummer's night dream.)

I confess I didn't cope too well with DT's absence - Insert here a HUGE thanks to H for trying to cheer me up). The actors were Magnificent, I fiercely adored Polonius (the actor had a such great talent for comedy -a nd I apologise for not knowing him before - and plus Shakespeare's humour!=
The whole adaptation thing? MAGNIFICENT! I can't wait to see other stuff of this director, because honestly is one of the best adaptation I've seen I)'m my whole life. I just wish I could fly more often to see RSC works.

I've had no idea Patrick Steward could play the bastard machinator so good and still with class!

I loved Ophelia, and I loved the girl who played her. She really broke my heart a couple of times.
Edward Bennett is a huge dilemma for me. I confess I didn't like much his perform in act 1. It seemed to me too much Tennant-like with the wrong face, even if I loved in the scene with Ophelia. But in Act 2, especially in the scene whit Hamlet and Gertrude (Hamlet's mother) he... well they were Wonderful!!! Seriously I LOVED THAT SCENE He's really a talented actor and even I could see that, but I never got over the fact DT wasn't there.

So at the end I still wonder how possible is that Shakespeare's stories always seem like they were written this morning, like if centuries never passed.

ARGH FORBIDDEN PLANET HAS NOT THE ADIPOSE!!!!! But I still was able to spent too much money there as usual.

Could I renounce at the noisy sonic Screwdriver? Or the Russel T. Davis book? or tons of magazines (plus Eve Myles on cover!!!)

Ok... now... try to guess what we watched on the way toward H's Place? True Blackpool, but also Learners. What can I say I adore DT even when he's an adorkable religious freak.

Have you noticed how he changed his way to move in every movie/character he does? "Normal, he's an actor" you could answer.... well no, not so much, especially of you're used, like me to Italian actors :p

It became a joke (or a game) every time DT was nominated, or a Blackpool song "singed" by him was played on, or any DW moment was quoted... I sighed. Funny (at least for me) and very liberating. It's not that you can "play" the fan-girl everyday. I "allowed" myself to be one.just for once.

New Year's Eve: H made me sing!!!!!! And people didn't even run away!
By the way Maude and Sebastian are sooooooooo sweet!!!!!

Mention of honour: KALYPSO!!!!!!!!!!

You have to know I'm terrified by all the cat, well beside Marmù, who's even more terrified than me and so she always run away (you can't be scared by someone who run away faster than you) except when I give her some Mayo. Back to the point, I really am not comfortable with them I don't know how interact with cats, even if people always say "My cat is different" usually the are not. What can I say? I know it's irrational, but still cat scares the hell out of me!

Except Kalypso. She's adorable! I fell in love with her in a moment. And she decided I was OK when as first thing I did when I met her was made her drink from a sink. I loved to pet a pet!!!! I can't believe that but she's the sweetest ever!
I'm gonna to miss her!

So at the end....

THANKS Kae-9!!!!!!!!! For taking care of even when I was mournful and depress, Thanks for listening me when I spoke about ghosts and past loves. Thanks for being so Blackpool obsessed, thanks for liking Takin' over the Asylum! Thanks for being so obsessed with a .99 ice cone, cotton candies, chips, Tofu (adaptable and nutritious,,, and I don't like tofu) . Thanks for all my blabbing about life & stuff. Thanks for the toast with the salty non-butter thing.

See you next time!
