As for you friend that "got in trouble", I think he should say whatever he wants (or she). Then the other side can say whatever they want. That's freedom of speech, and it's fair. I can see why the priest said something to him though because it wasn't balanced. AND if the school is going to allow political things to be said, it needs to be balanced, and it would be better to get into all of that with a dedicated time to debate it. So, in short, I can see your points on that one.
So, that's just my two cents worth. Since things can come across a little differently on the internet, I want you to know I really am just throwing my two cents in for the sake of discussion, I'm not trying to brow-beat or anything like that. Nice discussion there :)
Hey, I totally get what your saying and thanks so much
Sorry, I don't always comment, it's because most of the time I read something, then I'll be like, "Okay, I have to comment later because I have this and this to do..." I get sidetracked really easily and sometimes its hard to keep up. But, I appreciate all the comments. I'll try to remember to comment more.
Well okay, first? Not allowing people to voice their opinions in school? Fuck that.
Second of all, politics and Catholic schools go totally hand in hand. Why? Because Catholic schools are shoving Republican propaganda down our throats every day. I'm not sure how it is at your school, but at every Catholic school that I know of, it's just like this. When Catholic schools stop preaching about abortions, gay marriage, wars, etc...then maybe situations like this will stop happening.
When you're Catholic, I swear, everything comes back to abortion. So freaking true. I don't consider myself a Catholic, and I am pro-choice....but political discussions always end up coming back to abortion. And I think it's because Catholics condem abortions AND all forms of birth control other than "family planning" or whatever the hell they call it.
I'm for being able to voice opinions, there is just a time and a place. And I just don't want to see my friend get hurt.
I can totally see what you're saying. It's very clear that alot of the beliefs of the Catholic church are right-wingest, I just don't think it should mix in with schools. You know what I mean? And I totally didnt meant to offend anyone, I was just kind of spouting off.
I can respect that. Really, I'm not one of those people that would shove down your throat why I think abortion is wrong. Everyone is entitle to what they think. The main reason why I don't think abortion should be an issue because I've realized that it's going to be very hard to fight and abortion laws, and probably won't happen. Not that I wouldn't like to see it change.
Yeah. I just think that's totally lame for the priest to have gone up to her and said that. I don't care what kind of school you go to, we all have the right to voice our opinions. And just because someone disagrees doesn't mean they should make you stop.
I'm totally not offended. And I get what you're saying. But on the other hand, I think it's important for kids to know about political issues and form their own opinions on them. We have too many people who are indifferent to everything.
Exactly. Everyone has their own opinions and I'm totally fine with that. It's just the people who try to shove it down your throat (on either side of th issue) that irritate me. Thank God you're not like that.
