Have just (3.5 hrs ago) begun my surgery rotation, and good lord am I very overwhelmed. I do not think I will enjoy this experience at all, although I am trying to keep an open mind and be optimistic

Thanks so much, Alison. It wasn't a bad death, and, in the past few years, his dementia had really gotten so much worse. In the end, he couldn't even really talk. He'd hum aimlessly and bang his stick on the wall. Before that, he was so scared. He'd have these periods of lucidity where he didn't really know where he was, and he'd want his mother, and then he would say that he wanted to die. It was really sad. I'm glad he didn't have any physical pain; I just wish he hadn't had to go through the dementia beforehand.
There's a list of what goes in a post-op note in that little Maxwell book. Have it on you at all times but don't let Dr. Russian Lady see you using it because she thinks you should have all that shit memorized. You'll do okay. Just keep after her about expectations and always look like you're moving fast and make your case presentations VERY VERY CONCISE.
Thanks for the tips :). I actually did read today about what goes in a post-op note. I will be precise and concise and efficient and businesslike. Or at least I will try to.
