what about a defuser? im not sure if that is how you spell it, but it is a fireless deodorizer that can be decorative and smells really good. are the other tennants allowed to smoke? even if so, i'd call the landlord and complain.

yeah they're allowed to smoke in the house. and one of them is a really nice guy, so i have this thing in the back of my mind that i don't want to get them in trouble because the one guy is really trying to make everybody happy.

goddamn wanting to be nice...

seems like it could be awkward. i wonder if there's a way to bring it up without any hostility? just explain it to him how it is. tell him you're allergic to the smoke or something and that it's hard to tolerate. seems like he should be a little sympathetic to other people's needs in that way. maude and i decided she would not smoke in the house when we moved in together, and thank god. her old apt. smelled so horrible. once in a while when i would stay at her place i would also do laundry there, and when i got home my mom always told me i better re-wash all of it cuz it smelled so nasty.

My mom suggested that maybe you could put filters in your vents, it would help block some of the smoke without having to close them off completely. Apparently that's what the renters before us did in our apartment because the downstairs renters smoked. They said it helped a little.

yeah along the same lines as above comment, but put dryer sheets in your heat vents and all shall hopefully smell pretty again
