... I loathe this day of the year. Beauty is already fading--why celebrate the day of your birth?

Why not? It marks another year of life. It is a day to look back on what you have accomplished, and to continue looking to what else the future can bring.

....
How old are you today, Morrigan?

You, bard, have never heard Flemeth's speeches on the subject. One of them, believe me, would give that optimism of yours a fright.

...Twenty-eight if you must know.

....given the speaker, I've no doubt of that. But surely that does not make them as bad as she claims.

She's my mother. I believe that alone gives you some clue of what I am feeling right now.

It's also a step closer to infirmity. Youth doesn't last forever. Everything fades. Why celebrate that step closer into the maw of death?

Because you've made it for another year. There are worse things to lose than youth or beauty.

Really. How could I not know that? Lad, my mother survived for centuries. I believe I know a bit more about aging than you.
