MIX: Robin/Isabella - Catch A Flame [+ matching wallpaper!]
This was originally intended for the lovely snowystingray as part of a Christmas present. Unfortunately, circumstances intervened, and I wasn't able to get it to you quite as I had envisioned! I kept working on it anyway, and so here it is. Better late than never?
This mix is about how Isabella is, how Robin is, why they react the way they do, and the way it could have ended. Isabella is trouble and troubled, and not all of her own making. (I Got Trouble) It's a combination that both draws Robin in and warns him away. (You Do Something To Me) That danger that she's running away from still affects the way she acts, makes her undermine the very relationship she wants. (Don't Wake Me Up) Sometimes she's not sure what she wants. When a man orders her about, it riles her. Isabella will do anything to claw back control when she feels it slipping away. For sparse and scattered minutes, she feels powerful and a don't-care kind of glorious. (Hate On Me) But lack of truth and trust don't get her where she wants to be, deeper down. (Stray Italian Greyhound) Isabella pushes people away. (Another Way To Die) And so, she finds herself alone. (Alex's Theme) Sometimes she might wish things could be different, but she's not sure how else to survive. (I Wish I Knew)
In the story we know, Isabella never changes, and evil dies along with good.
But even in another, there might still have been pain. If they had all lived, and Robin had married Kate - his valiant, golden Kate. But Isabella still drew him, pulled him in, despite himself. She would have had to push him away. (Stay)

(I felt like there was a parallel between Alex and Isabella. Isabella's also lost - searching for a way to be, or a person. Both have strong, uncompromising, even reactive spirits - but both have a capacity to care. Isabella's tragedy is that she too quickly believes she shouldn't care, and swaps hope for bitterness.
..this is also a nod to snowystingray's theory that the Gisbornes were 80s rock stars in another life. I thoroughly subscribe to it, as should everyone.)
