For volunteering/hobby in NYC, might I recommend Recording for the blind and dyslexic? I did it for a number of years, until family issues prevented me from doing much more. They can always use "specialist readers" -- I read math and physics textbooks (and sometimes computer science).

I wonder why they don't have any "national" offices anywhere in the NW. Weird.

It started out of Columbia University, so there's probably an Eastern bias.

Our family enjoys social dancing, lessons, being silly together with some music.

You might also try an indoor garden you could give to a friend for a month while you're away

or reading books aloud as a family (I think that is the leisure activity our family engages in that I enjoy the most.)

I'm so jealous that you got to go to the French Open. Some day I will go to a Grand Slam!

Is the French Baccalaureate different than the International Baccalaureate exam? There are high schools in the U.S. that gear their program towards the latter and I thought the idea was that then you could go anywhere in the world and be accepted. The high school I went to switched from AP to IB as I was graduating.

"Are there any hobbies you really enjoy and would like to suggest that I try?"

I'm a big fan of volunteering!! There are places that you can work with others or do stuff solo.

Perhaps try a new sport? Historically I've never been athletic, but I've recently taken up with the crew and found that I enjoy both rowing and cox'ing.

I am going to look into community gardens in NYC (prediction: waiting lists galore, but also perhaps lots of volunteer opportunities for making new ones happen), and it would be awesome to have neighbors at one, oh yes, and of course I would be happy to plant-sit (although I suspect wherever we live is going to be overrun with growing containers, so maybe visiting houseplants like they were pets is a better strategy?) Ex-Landscape Clinic team powers activate?
