high fantasy

I don't think the high fantasy thing. Apparently high fantasy is only written in a quasi-medieval type universe. I don't know why that is. Is it because of Tolkien? How come nobody ever writes fantasy in another time period? There's lots of time periods you could potentially write fantasy in; every age has its folklore and myths that could be used

Some of Ellen Kushner's books are more like Renaissance rather than Medievil. Also, for stonage fun you have 'West of Eden' by Harry Harison... though that is more liek Sci-Fi in many ways.
