So we were discussing The Handmaid's Tale. And I found it very amusing that this guy thought that the scenario in the book could never happen.

I think the scenario in the book is pretty much what the far religious right in the US wants to have happen.

Actually reading that book made me think that that is what many people believe would happen if the far religious right managed to exercise more political power than it has already. ANd a lot of it is about what happened in Iran in the 1970s when the book was written.

I didn't connect it to Iran at the time I read it, but I can see that.
