My headcanon is that Sherlock's had to fend for himself quite a bit in the three years prior to this fic, and also that he's feeling quite a bit guilty for what he's done to John. The solution, of course, is to apologize with the food! Yay! It makes sense in my head, anyway. XD

In my head, Sherlock had a huge speech that he had planned to give when he met up with John again. The speech was interrupted by, firstly, John fainting, and then, secondly, by Sherlock being unprepared for his own reaction to seeing John again. Hence, hug-scene! For when words won't come out properly on their own.
