Have finally dried off after getting thoroughly drenched trying to race across the paddling pool at Sheep's Green. Note to self: Don't wear jeans that take ages to dry next time. Getting soaked seems to be the running theme of this weekend. On Saturday felyjade and I joined Gunde's punting trip to Granchester which then got caught in the torrential ( Read more... )

If you remind me, I could try looking out some of the breathing exercises that I was given during singing training. The idea is to make you breathe correctly (so using the right muscles, which from your therapist's comments you are already doing) and then to strengthen the abdominal muscles that you use for breath control (which might or might not be helpful to you).

That would be really nice - thanks! I think the problem is that I've learned to contract the abdominal muscles to expel the breath in yoga, and of course in dancing you need to keep that area toned - to the extent that when trying to achieve a good posture my muscles are constantly in 'breathing out' mode. Result: one near-fainting dancer! Learning to expand the lower chest to breathe in and yet still have control would be very useful!
