Scene 3, A battle and a phonecall
Kenpachi sighed and took a defensive stance, high on the balls of his feet and bouncing slightly from foot to foot keeping his center of gravity moving. The last thing he needed right now was to get tangled in that whip. He was almost certain Devyd was at least as strong as he was, and he didn't want to waste the effort required to break free of entanglement. Devyd began slowly advancing across the small room, and the air around him warped and changed as he did. Grinning he swung the whip at Ken, it's razored thorns making a high pitched whistle whisper through the air. Ken slipped down low and hopped up underneath the first cautious swing, a look of disappointment visible on his features.
"You're not trying, Devyd. I can tell you're more skilled than this just by feeling your aura, why aren't you putting more effort into it? You're not going to hurt me with that puny whip, and you should know it." As if to prove his point, Ken didn't dodge the next swing, but instead blocked it with his arm. A brief tearing sound followed by the clang of metal on metal filled the air, making Devyd stat with suprise and nearly drop his whip. He raised an eyebrow as he noted that the blades on the whip had come into contact with some kind of dermal plating just as they broke Ken's skin.
Ken grinned and whispered something in japanese, leaping backwards into the air and coming down in apparently three different locations. The three shouted in unison and whirling blades of energy filled the air around Devyd in response to their voice. Devyd was able to dodge most of the blades, but somehow at least a few managed to break through even his finely honed defenses. Not that it mattered, the same shadowy aura that had surrounded him absorbed the blades like a wall of water, making them fall harmlessly to the ground.
"Now who isn't trying, Ken? I know you can do better than that." Devyd chuckled and stepped back, brushing the leaves the blades had turned into away from himself lest he discover an unfortunate surprise like Ken being able to turn the leaves back into blades inside his defensive shield. He swung his whip at one of the phantom images, making it vanish in a cloud of improbability before turning to face Ken himself again. "That cut on your arm is a real giveaway... oh crud" Devyd had just noticed that the damaged Ken was healing fast enough to be noticeably visible.
"YOU CANNOT THWART THE WILL OF MY MASTER, DEVYD. I CARE NOT FOR THIS GAME AND WOULD SEE IT ENDED" Ken charged forward, dodging the whip again and slipping around behind Devyd, catching him in a tight wrestling hold. HIs remaining clone vanished into the air as if he'd never existed, leaving the two men struggling by themselves. Devyd tried to slip the hold and discovered he was being held tighter than he'd expected. And then something strange happened. Despite the windowless internal room, Devyd's phone began to ring from his pocket.
