Is The Economy Really THIS Bad?

Evidently the economy is so bad that my "qualifications" suit factory assembly work. I stuck out the computer-based portion of the job for two days. That entailed me photographing a shitload of jewelry and checking them off a list. I'm talking 8 hours straight of that. Really, it was that mindless and repetitive. Then they told me that I would be ( Read more... )

Yea, I'm using my illustrious Anthropology degree in the fascinating field of hospital security.

In a state with about 10% unemployment (more like 15% adjusted), just having been able to get a job makes me happy. Well, not happy, but you know...

I'll answer phones, I'll file files, but I'm not going to be lowered to putting part A together with part B with a bunch of people who don't speak English everyday. I'd rather be broke.

That's a little insulting to those people who don't speak english...what does that have to do with anything?

Yes, the economy really is that bad. You shouldn't really bitch about any job you can get. I assume you don't have to entirely support yourself or you'd not be so picky.

I have to agree with the responses here. Unfortunately, beggars can't be choosers in the economy we’re currently living in.

If I were in your shoes, especially since you pay bills and have a vehicle, I'd keep whatever job I had, regardless of my distaste towards it and/or the people I work with. I'd keep it, and keep looking for something better simultaneously, because I'd still have income and potentially, a better job. In a sense, you've made your hole bigger, as you’re back to square one. I’d literally shovel elephant droppings for $5 an hour for 20 hours a week if I could at this point. lol

Personally, I think it's a poor decision on your part, as I think you let your pride outweigh rationalization this time, but good luck with your job hunt regardless…it’s a tough one.

I get temp jobs by the week so I know I won't be out for long. That's why I didn't mind ditching it. Even the temp agency agreed with me that I shouldn't have been put there, that they had no idea that I was essentially being put on an assembly line. It wasn't just pride at work either. If my mind's not working on work, then it thinks about other things. That's the OCD biting me in the ass. Under normal circumstances, I don't even have to worry about it, doesn't even cross my mind. If I'm doing something completely mindless, however, it's not a good time.
