Lunch with Dave.

I'm going out to meet Dave, my biological father, for lunch in about an hour. From the few email exchanges we've had, he seems pretty cool, if not slightly dyslexic. He's a business-oriented type, a hobbyist, a traveler, a fisher, and a handyman. Apparently he's also an executive board member (whatever that means) for the Sun Run ( Read more... )

It went pretty well, actually. He seems down to earth, and is pretty keen on getting to know me, and to show me his life and family. I think that I'm cool with that, so we'll see how it goes. It's a weird feeling though... I mean, this is a dude that I've never met, but he's responsible for my existence today. Before yesterday, I knew absolutely nothing about any part of his life. Now I know stories about members of my immediate family; births, deaths, and feuds of people I had no awareness of. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins... a whole clan of relatives/strangers.

It's a lot to absorb, so I'm going to try to know him a bit, rather than diving into it headlong. He's into golf, so I guess we'll be going out to the driving range sometime soon.

One thing that I found cool: He has good taste in cars... he drives a yellow S2000, which is the car I saved up to buy a few years ago; but when I went for the testdrive, it was too small for me and I ended up getting the 3000GT.
