The national Day of Silence is coming up this Wednesday so if y'all are interested in participating some of us should get together and make t-shirts [since you can't exactly say why you're not talking]; I will be and support is greatly appreciated ( Read more... )

That shirt thing might be a good idea.

Emalee/Krysten/myself were talking about staying silent for as much of the day as possible [we leave on that wednesday for Virgina beach, and the whole roll call thing...yeah.], so perhaps the shirts would help explain it.

idk, put me down as a maybe? :p

I find that the most attention is gained by screaming angrily and peppering your speech with colorful vulgarities... and I shall continue this practice as I see fit!

count me in, i got some people to do it with me last year but youre right it is hard to explain what youre being silent for when you have to be well silent and writing takes time. The t-shirts are a great idea

I'm in, but like Jolene and such, I'm in work crew and leaving on that day. Talking is a bit necessary for that and stuff, but I can try to make do with hand gestures and I'll keep quiet on the bus.

I've wanted to do this since last year, so I like the idea.

My t-shirt size is small.

If you would like, the LGBT Resource Center at UWM is selling t-shirts saying "gay? fine by me." for $5 each (in maroon, pink, blue and green) and I could purchase ones for different Franklinites interested and pay a visit to my Alma Mater to deliver them.

Now, about the actual silence for The Day of Silence, I have to make a point about it. When you are required to talk for various projects or classes, it is perfectly ok to speak. If you read up on it by going to the website pointed out, you'll understand a little bit better. Another website that you might also take interest in could be www.finebyme.org, which is part of another nationwide project in LGBT awareness. I will be taking part in The Day of Silence and wish you luck in having a larger participation of the project at FHS.

I would recommend that for such a day. I had used a dry-erase board as well and did just fine. I even did several interviews for the Saber Slate while I only used the dry-erase board to ask questions. I had the participants write they're answers on sheets of paper too. It was a good idea, but I didn't want to publish the article.
