How do you stop someone from killing themself?

I'm afraid that the only person that can stop someone from commiting suicide is the person who wants to commit suicide. No one can persuade that person otherwise. It's up to him/her, but you can help that person make the right decision.

You can do a lot to help. Empathy. Don't try to understand, just empathize. Get the person help, even if it means jeopardizing or hurting your relationship with the person. I would personally check a bunch of forums online dedicated to helping potential suicide victims. It'll be depressing and hard to deal with but it will give valuable insight.
