The most liberating thing the Maternal Unit ever said to me was when we were having a perfectly innocent conversation about my husband and my inlaws, and she suddenly blurted out "You're their daughter now, but he's not our son!" She still occasionally pretends to "apologize" for saying that. She has absolutely no idea that was my Get Out Of Jail Free card--once she said that, all bets were off; I'm no longer under any obligation to pretend to care what she thinks.

Your da has a good habit: "15 minutes". 15 minutes every day to clean and organise.... it seems to help.
