Who: Arianna and Danny, featuring Julia
Where: Sam and Carly's appartment
Summary: First meetings during babysitting.

Babysitting was fun, except when the child in question didn't feel like co-operating with you.

Arianna didn't generally have trouble with Julia, at all. They'd play a little, Arianna would show her all the movies that Carly swore up and down her daughter would never see, she'd have her take a nap... Nothing huge. She considered herself good at this, and it was her job to be. She was the godmother, after all.

But today was not meant to be one of the days where she did well, apparently, because Julia would not stop crying. All the toys were repeatedly thrown out of the play pen -- Arianna remembered just now that Madsen always referred to it as 'Baby Jail', and realized there was probably some truth to that-- and everything Arianna attempted to do to comfort her wasn't working.

"Julia, come on." Arianna sighed as she picked the baby up and held her gently, and then grumbled as she looked around. She had to do something. Her head was starting to hurt from all the screaming, and she knew that if Sam and Carly came home to a screaming baby she'd get an earful. She didn't know why, it wasn't as if Julia hadn't cried in front of them before.

Okay, what hadn't she tried? Toys, movie, food... Music. Would music work?

She moved over to the stereo, and flipped through the cds, finding something to put on. She paused as she eyed the cd, and wondered which one owned this with this particular song on it. Hard to know, considering Sam had just recently admitted to liking that song from Air Supply.

Shaking her head, Arianna put in the cd and kept trying to comfort Julia while the music came on. Oddly enough, Julia seemed to like it, and the crying had a little less screaming attached to it.

Arianna shrugged and decided to run with it. "Well it's alright, and it's comin' 'long, we gotta get right back to where we started from..." She grinned and dance around with Julia in her arms. Julia was either amused by the entertainment, or really did like the song, because she was slowly starting to stop. "Love is good, love can be strong, we gotta get right back to where we started from..."

After a minute, she was into it, and dancing around the house, singing along with the music. And finally, Julia was laughing, and seemed to be doing some version of baby singing as well.

Arianna almost didn't hear the knocking at the door, too into her triumph. When she did, she looked up and flinched a little. "Sh-- Whoops." Well, at least she'd caught that one. She was not going to be the one to add 'sheet' to the list along with 'feeken' and 'funchen'.

"Just a second!" She called over the music, and rushed to the stereo to shut it off, then set Julia back down in the play pen. She then moved to do the door, and opened it. "Sorry, I was just--..."

Standing before her was a suited man who, if nothing else, couldn't possibly know her brother. "Sorry, I think I have the wrong house."

"You just might." Arianna raised an eyebrow, wondering who the hell he was. "Who're you looking for?"

"Sam Howell."

"Then you have the right house." Although Arianna couldn't figure out for the life of her why. This man didn't look like he worked with Sam at all. What profession he was it was a little hard to place, but sure as hell not photography. "I'm his sister, Arianna. I'm just babysitting."

"Danny Ocean." He replied calmly, and then registered the other half of what she'd just said. "Babysitting?"

So he didn't know. That meant they didn't hang around much recently, or Sam had taken to not telling his friends that he had a daughter. She was pretty sure it was the first one, since Sam had always been proud of being a Dad. "Babysitting." She laughed a little and stepped aside to let him in. "He has a daughter."

Danny walked past her and looked around the appartment, and his eyes finally rested on Julia. "... A daughter." He repeated, and Arianna detected a note of disbelief in his voice.

She nodded. "Julia."

"Right." Danny looked vaugely amused, but wasn't making any moves towards the kid. "Interesting. This is what I get when I don't talk to a friend for a while."

"Did you just get into town?"

"Yeah, actually." He nodded, looking back to Arianna smoothly. "I've been working out of the country for a while. Plus there was vacation with my wife, so."

Arianna nodded as well, and noticed Julia looked interested in the new person in her house. "I think she likes you."

Danny's gaze turned back to the kid, and he watched her with a slightly unnerved expression. "She does?"

Julia laughed and waved to him, holding onto the top bar of the play pen for suppourt. Arianna fought for a straight face, but was losing due to never being really any good at that. He just seemed so put off by a kid liking him. "You don't have any kids?"

"No, no kids."

"Never wanted any?" She realized she was probably asking too much, and caught herself. "I'm sorry, that would be asking too much. You don't have to answer that."

"Nah, don't worry about it." He replied dismissively, and shrugged. "Never really thought about it. I don't deal with kids in my line of work."

Arianna tried desperately to leave it at that without asking more questions. She really didn't want to irritate this guy, he seemed too cool for it. "Right."

"So you're Sam's sister? You don't sound like you're from here."

"I did an overseas thing in England. Exchange student program." Arianna had gotten so it was effortless to lie about where she'd been, and most people bought it. Those that didn't really didn't ask questions.

Danny seemed to know that she was lying, she could tell by the clear amusement as he watched her. "That so." He didn't call her on it though, simply moved on and was startled by Julia's noise of surprise as she lost her balance and fell backwards onto her behind. "... Is she going to cry now?"

"No, just give her a second, she'll get over it." Arianna laughed a little and waited patiently as Julia indeed got over it, and went back to watching Danny with interest. "That's Danny, Julia. Say hi to Danny?"

"Dammy!"

"... She calls my boyfriend 'Dam', if that helps you any."

"Helps a little." Danny laughed quietly as he watched the baby watch him. "Does she just keep doing that?"

"Pretty much. Unless you give her something else to watch. And even then she might not go for it. I mean she was all interested in this necklace that I was wearing, but I couldn't give it to her, because she'd break it. And no matter what I did, she still wanted the necklace. I had to hide the bloody thing. It was so stupid... And I'm babbling."

"I did notice that." He replied in a dry tone. "I was waiting until you figured it out." He didn't seem particularly bothered, but it was hard to tell if that was just for her or not.

Arianna sighed sheepishly. "Just stop me next time I do that. I keep going until I catch myself. I don't know how Dan tolerates it."

"Dan would be the boyfriend?"

"Dan would be the boyfriend." She smiled and nodded. "But anyway, if you feel like staying around, Sam should be back with Carly in about an hour." She paused. "And I can put Julia down for a nap if that'll help." She smirked at him.

Danny looked mildly sheepish. "If you don't mind."

Arianna grinned and nodded, picking up Julia and carrying her into her room quietly. "Sure."

Julia wasn't all that pleased with being taken away, and looked almost annoyed. She reached for Danny once and let off a noise to show her irritation. "Dammy!"

"Naptime, Jules. You can see Danny later." Arianna disappeared into Julia's room, shutting the door behind herself.

Danny sighed, relieved, and sat down on the couch, looking at the stack of DVDs on the other end. He picked the first one up. Nightmare Before Christmas. What the hell was this?

"Ever seen that?" Arianna asked as she came out of the room, shutting the door behind herself as quietly as she could. "It's my favorite movie."

"I can't say I have."

"We can watch it until Sam comes back."

Danny eyed the DVD cover, and shrugged. "Sure."

Arianna grinned in a way that made him think he might regret this particular descision, and took the DVD from him. "I'll put it on." She popped the DVD in and turned on the TV, kicking back on the couch after.

'Boys and girls of every age, would you like to see something strange...'

Danny raised an eyebrow slowly as he watched the tv, and realized that if Tess and Rusty could see him now, he'd never live this down. This was going to be a long hour.

Especially since the girl next to him seemed perfectly happy with what she was watching.

He decided to watch the clock out of the corner of his eye.

Fifty five minutes to go.

'This is Halloween, this is Halloween, pumpkins scream in the dead of night...'
