I have to do a thesis paper for my Writing 301 class this semester and I'm having a hard time finding a topic that is both sufficiently controversial and specific enough so that it can be done. try something less polarized and more tangible, like the patriot act or censorship in art or television or other media.

the last thing i wrote about this kind of topic was whether or not it was ethical to give china the 2008 olympics in light of human rights violations, so something world event oriented usually works too.

That sounds like a good paper. The you know any angle that you didn't cover but wish you had. I don't like writing about something someone I know has written about makes me feel like I'm cheating somehow.

Decency laws censor Freedom of Speech and Expression. Oooor, do some research and decide which side you're taking on your own. There's this great video of Frank Zappa back in the 80's on Crossfire arguing against censorship. I think you can find it on ebaumsworld.com
