It has come to my attention that there is an ongoing debate as to the legitimacy of these letters we've received. I have taken a neutral standpoint on the matter, but would like to open a dialogue with the residents ( Read more... )

[She debated long and hard about answering but damn it all, this is just up her alley. Intellectual conversation!]

Do you suppose that someone has figured out a way to split those time lines, then, and remove each of us from those different lines?

[Hey, he may be batshit crazy, but he's still a brilliant mage and scientist.]

The simple act of removing us would split the timelines. If this theory is correct, it would be impossible for any of your compatriots to be from the same time line.

However, should we be injected back into our timelines, at the same exact point in time and space, it is possible that the lines would fuse back together.

However, that is all simply conjecture. It is quite possible that it is beyond the laws of even the metaphysical to accomplish that. The ramifications of our absence from our respective splinters of time, however, could range from anywhere to someone parting their hair differently, to nigh on apocalyptic.

The bottom line is that there simply is no way to be certain, even after taking that plunge into the unknown, simply because we would not be able to discern what is in truth experience or what was injected into our memories by our captors.

I am less a theoretical scientist than a practical one, but I have read about similar theories in my world. It would explain, for example, how Flonne was taken from before she met Adell, but Adell still remembers her.

If that were the case, it would mean that all of us are from different worlds, even those of us that know each other.

Exactly! Which means that the idea that "time stands still" while we are here may or may not be true. For all we know, time is still chugging right along in our own worlds, meaning there may be more merit to those letters than initially believed.

It also means that those that vanish from this world may not really return to their home worlds...

By the way, I'm Kurtis. I don't think we've met.

Or even still have a world to truly return to. At this point, all we can do, is follow our guts.

Kefka Palazzo. A pleasure~!

That sounds a lot like the Many Worlds Theory. It makes a lot of sense, actually. I still don't think the letters are real, but it would explain why people don't miss us.

As I say, it is simply a theory, and there really is no way of proving or disproving it at the moment.

Worth keeping in mind, though. Makes more sense than people going back to the same time they left without any sign of anything that happened here.

Indeed. Magic can be a tricky thing, especially when dealing with time.

Such an amusing theory. So you think all those from your own world here are different people than their forms that you know from your supposed timeline?

It is a definite possibility. After all, their reactions to my presence here are all so... foreign to me. Last I remember, we were all fast friends~!

Most amusing. The reactions to my presence were as amusing as I expected them to be. Just what I expected from such worthless humans.

Hmm...I'm no expert on time magic either, but I do have suspicions about this supposed portal. I find it hard to believe that a single portal can transport everyone back to the respective times and worlds in which they belong. Even if these senders mean well, how do they know that people won't be transported to different worlds entirely? For example, suppose I was transported to your world, and you were sent to mine? As badly as I want to return to my world, I don't think it'll be safe to take this portal...

And there's also the possibility that it could be a deliberate trap.

There is the possibility that this will not be a portal in the traditional form, but an area-wide Dispel, of sorts. Something to specifically undo any magic or other things tying us here. Once those bonds to this place are removed, it could be very natural that we are pulled back to our respective worlds and times due to a sort of origination singularity.

I have not ruled anything out. I'm simply playing the 'devil's advocate' as it were. Healthy debate never hurt anyone, and to examine things from a different perspective can only help in the decision making proccess.

Sure, healthy debate may not hurt, but it doesn't get anywhere either. This thing has its ups and downs, no matter how we look at it.

[As badly as he wants to go home, he doesn't feel that this risk is worth taking. On a side note, he's surprised that Kefka's not being a maniac.]

Simply making sure everyone has a chance to evaluate the situation from both sides of the coin and make a more informed choice.

[Give it time, Jay. Give it time.]
