Don't let yourself get in the way of doing well in algebra. You're a different person than you were back in high school, so you just might find it easier than you think, but you have to be open to that possibility.

Seriously I am absolutely blown away that I even managed to get in a normal level of math. The lady told me I did *better* than many kids coming out of HS now! I'm still taking a fundamentals of algebra class...if you have been out of school over 7 years, it's required unless you score in the top 10 percentile. But it's not remedial or pre algebra!!
That's actually a very good way to look at algebra, or more specifically, variables and functions. Another good way is to think of them as recipes, with different variables representing ingredients, in addition to cooking times and temperatures. Tweaking a recipe to make a larger or smaller portion, is doing algebra!
You have more than enough real world experience with algebra, in the kitchen and on your computer, that you should be able to blast right through it, as long as you can make that connection between your experiences and the "math" of it.
