Many years ago, when popups were first starting, as well as the whack the monkey ads were popular, I used adbusters. But more recently I only block a few ads, and there are two reasons for this:
1. Those ads really do help pay for content and bandwidth that I use. If they don't actively annoy me, I don't block them. Popups, popunders, rollovers, ads with sound, all get blocked.
2. When a site has on topic, contextual advertising, I often find that I'm interested enough to follow those links. I've found things I didn't know existed, and I've found great deals on things I was looking to buy anyway. I've also found a lot of crap sites.
But that's just me. Sometimes the easiest thing to do is block all ads and be done with it. I'm certainly not going to tell you you're wrong to block ads while those obnoxious sorts of ads are still out there.
