Hooray for frantic cleaning and planning a fabulous party!

You will be happy to know that while I was renewing the dog licenses, there was someone in the county shelter adopting a kitten, and another person in there looking for a dog. It made me feel good since I have been there when people were 'surrendering' a pet.

So what if it sucks?! I'm fucking puking out words on a page! They are words that make sentences and even if those sentences won't pass the smell test, I will take their tattered remains and write Real Sentences! That stand up to scrutiny! They will smell shiny! SHINY

YES! I have seen this sentiment expressed in countless books about writing. Just spew it on a page. Do not get caught up in typos, grammar or actual plot. When you've run out of steam, THEN go back and pick at it. Also that you do not need to write your story in a linear fashion. Write the story in any order you feel, then go back and fit it all together, like a puzzle.

The rest of my life is barely controlled chaos.*insert slightly insane, ( ... )

I feel so bad for the people who have pets and get evicted or lose their home and can't find a place to take their pet. Or the people whose kid develops a bad-ass allergy. I can't even imagine getting rid of a cherished family pet. And then there are those people who should never have even gotten an animal in the first place...

I've always been the kind5 of writer who micromanages--can't move on to a new section paragraph sentence until the first is 95% tolerable. With this new story though I am much better able to just be patient and get it out. Hopefully when it's time to go back and fix stuff, I will find more useable that I think there will be.

LOL Good luck keeping the chaos at a manageable level!

a couple was filling out the paperwork to adopt Bryan

Aww, yay!

We've gotten all but one of our cats from shelters and/or friends/family/coworkers, so I'm definitely on board with you there. I'd love to have a cat to keep me company now (I miss my cats!!) but considering I can barely feed *myself*, that's on the back burner a little bit :P

And congrats on the word puke! LOL. Sometimes it's better than nothing ~ but sometimes, it just adds to the frustration. I wrote some last night, too, but I think it's all going to have to be scrapped, and that sucks :-/ The upside is, I think I've figured out a way to make the story work (and not a moment too soon, considering yuletide is due by the 22nd!) :P

Plenty of time in the future for a cat! God knows there will be lots available.

Thanks--I won't even mind the scrapping. It was good to be able to get out so much that had been floating in my head and see it in word form. If writing leads to learning how to make things work, then even if it gets ditched, it had a purpose. Good luck with your deadline!

Glad you have volunteered at a no kill animal center. No kill does sometimes create a financial burden on the shelter. The Second Chance Rescue Center in Sioux Falls had to close its doors recently and file bankruptcy because it was nearly $200,000 in debt despite having contracts with Minnehaha and
Lincoln County.

I'm sorry your local shelter had to close--it is an extra burden on the government agencies now and they don't have any spare money for animal housing or placement either.
