Such people as that street preacher have become so consumed with hate, so focused on hell, that they can't see anything which doesn't fit into their world view. And yes, it is sad, and tiresome. So tiresome that people stop listening to them, which in a backwards way incites them to shout louder and longer.
Hate is hate. God is love. Think about it, who did Jesus hang with, and who put him to death? Sometimes it's easier to go looking at everybody else than to step inside the darkness of our own hearts. I was the most sanctimonious when I was the most hateful. I wonder if that isn't just par for the course.
Yeah. Pride and hate are really easy sins to commit, and they're especially sticky because it's entirely possible to commit them and be entirely convinced that we're doing the right thing. Feeling good and superior feels nice, but nobody's superior to anybody else. The second we start to look down our noses at anyone--and I think everybody in the world does it now and then--we ought to stop preaching and start praying and listening to our consciences.

Except I think my faith is in a more shifting-and-unsure place in general than yours right now, but really, this.
