I have braces now in preparation for oral surgery a year or a year and a half from now to fix my open bite.  My teeth hurt a lot and I feel like I look ridiculous even though I know, in theory, that they aren't that bad.  It makes me really mad that my dentist didn't tell to have this fixed when I was younger.

Balderdash and poppycock, braces can be a surprisingly good look! Hope the self-consciousness evaporates along with the toothache. I am mildly horrified to read about the surgery, I'll grant, but doubtless the professions know what they're doing?

I am more than mildly horrified to think about it, believe me. This surgeon as done this and similar procedures many times though so I'm sure he knows what he's doing. I'm still terrified though.

I'll be going through that in a few months, too <3 Darn those open bites! Who knew teeth were supposed to meet in front, instead of just in the back? It'll be worth it. I hope the pain dies down significantly soon! It always hurt for a couple of days when I used to get mine adjusted, and then it was just fine. Good luck!
